The Good Things Devils Do

Trick or Treat!  The Season of the Witch is upon us and, if the horrible highs of The Good Things Devils Do is any hint of the TREATS to come, then we are going to have a damn good viewing season!

The ominous tones start early in The Good Things Devils Do and, while there is a bit of comedy thrown in, they never let up as one Halloween night a family man in a goofy-looking jack-o'-lantern sweater must team up with small time gangsters in order to stop a Hell-born vampire from terrorizing all of Transylvania County.

"delivers the demonic goods with a high body count, unexpected team-ups, and lots of Evil Dead-like moments of bloody AND body terror."

If you’re anything like me, the smile brought on by the flames, the comic book illustrations, and the sneak peak T&A show from Kelley Wilson Robinson only grows wider and more maniacal as the cast list for The Good Things Devils Do - which includes Linnea Quigley (Silent Night, Deadly Night), Kane Hodder (Jason X) and Bill Oberst Jr (3 From Hell) - appears on the screen.

Holy Hell!  This horror film has all the right elements.  Fingers crossed that it is going to be awesome!  And, truly, first time writer/director Jess Norvisgaard’s film doesn’t disappoint Horror Hounds (like me) and Gore-Gore Ghouls alike thanks to its dedication to ruthlessness and its endlessly demented funny bone.

The fact that I have not heard of this movie up until RIGHT NOW (watching the screening link) is a damned disservice to this Halloween TREAT.  This movie - full of solid performances from everyone involved - is a solid SCREAMER, full of brutal kills, a sick sense of humor, and one hell of a wild Halloween night.

Because while thief Richard (Bill Oberst Jr., Hunting Grounds, Ayla) and his daughter/partner Mouse (Mary Katherine O’Donnell, Night of the Wild, Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich) tell their boss that they want out of the business for good, the psychotic Percy (Kane Hodder, Shed of the Dead, To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story) is taking a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun to a mother and her little girl.  Little does Richard know (or want), he’s going to be partnered with Percy for this last job and things aren’t going to go well. The Good Things Devils DoOn the other side of town, Melvin (David Rucker III) and his 40-year-old stepdaughter Caroline (Kelley Wilson Robinson, Ted Bundy Had A Son), who is unable to take care of herself, are unboxing the latest addition to his popular Museum of the Macabre, the REAL remains of the vampire Masquerade (Veronika Stoykova).

I mean, he doesn’t think they are real, but THEY ARE and - as this is Halloween night - it’s only a matter of time before Masquerade rises again and starts dining on his family members, then the robbers, the trick-or-treaters and more!  Combine this unholy domestic disturbance with the impending one from Richard, Mouse, and Percy and this night is going to be unforgettable; full of more brutal tricks than tasty treats.

With a tone that is evenly split between the humorous and the horrible, The Good Things Devils Do delivers the demonic goods with a high body count, unexpected team-ups, and lots of Evil Dead-like moments of bloody AND body terror.
