“Bond. James Bond.”
And, with that smooth delivery, a catchphrase was born. Dr. No is filled with so many memorable moments - Ursula Andress emerging from the sea with her conch shells, the back-and-forth between Bond and Dr. No about their views on power and world relations, the ruthless confrontation with Professor Dent, the car chase, the spider in the hotel room - that it reads like a Greatest Hits package of 007 material.
Watching it on 4K HD as part of the newly released 007: The Sean Connery James Bond 6-Film Collection Limited Edition SteelBook Box Set 4K is certainly a hi-def treat for the eyes and the ears. The film, soaked in the vibrancy of the early 1960’s color palette, looks incredible as the native 4K transfers offer HDR10/Dolby Vision elements for crystal-clear image quality, leaving little to the imagination when it comes to just how this film became an international success.
The arrival of Sean Connery as James Bond is as foundational to action films as Dr. No is to the 007 film franchise. There is nothing quite like it. Directed by Terence Young and featuring a fun and dangerous performance from Connery as Bond and Joseph Wiseman as the titular villain, Dr. No, the film remains a groundbreaking film for the action genre, building a whole lot of suspense in the wake of James Bond’s arrival to the island of Jamaica.
Yes, that’s right: Dr. No gets a large part of its thrust from its tropical location as it wouldn’t be the swinging ‘60s without a whole lot of hip-shaking reggae music. Just listen to those bongos in the opening sequence - which also looks fantastic in 4K!! - as Monty Newman’s recognizable guitar tone gets taken over by bongos and a celebratory rendition of “Three Blind Mice” before settling into its opening intrigue surrounding the murder of the Station Chief of the British Secret Intelligence Service in Jamaica and his secretary by assassins known as the "Three Blind Mice".
Seems someone is up to no good. But why?!
Enter James Bond, who - after trying to slip out of headquarters with his old Beretta - is now armed with a Walther PPK and a license to kill whomever is behind these assassinations. Turns out, his own life is also at stake as Bond immediately faces several attempts on his life, including being followed by Dr. No's operatives. He teams up with CIA agent Felix Leiter and local boatman Quarrel to uncover the mystery and learns that Strangways's last investigation involved Crab Key, a mysterious and restricted island owned by the reclusive Dr. No. Ignoring warnings, Bond, Quarrel, and later the shell diver Honey Ryder, head to the island to investigate.
While it may seem tame to modern audiences, Dr. No is a subtle dive into the world of espionage, introducing a world which would later be mined in the follow-up, 1963’s From Russia With Love, which is also included with this landmark set.
Go back to the beginning of Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang’s legacy with Dr. No, now in 4K, which allows the dye-transfer printing process gives new depth to the film’s characteristic vibrant and glossy look!

Terence Young directs this action feature based on the novels by Ian Fleming. Secret Service agent James Bond (Sean Connery) is sent to Jamaica to investigate the murder of one of his colleagues. It transpires that the island is being used as a base for the terrorist organization SPECTRE who, under the guidance of the despotic Dr. No (Joseph Wiseman), have developed technology to divert rockets launched from Cape Canaveral.

The brand-new 4K transfer of the original camera negatives for each of these films is monumentally beautiful. Sony has outdone themselves. Truly, the results are as incredible as you can expect.
Using state of the art technology, a new 8K 16-bit scan of the original Technicolor camera negative became the basis for the 4K UHD scan. In a word: perfection. I cannot use enough adjectives to express how flawlessly beautiful these films look in their native 4K scan. This is not hyperbole. Film grain is fine and intact and adds detail to the picture - the likes you have never seen. Colors, especially with the HDR enhancements, are deeper and punchier than they ever were before in the land of all things 007, without sacrificing their intended looks and atmosphere. In fact, the overall detail and depth of these pictures cannot be overstated.
The 4K Blu-ray discs feature the DOLBY VISION HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen — frame by frame.
