Sony Pictures just struck a deal with HBO Max that hands over the distribution rights of Seth Rogen's new comedy film, An American Pickle to the subscription streaming company.

The film was originally set to release in theaters this fall, but due to the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent closing of many theaters, it will become available later this summer on August 6, 2020 via HBO's subscription streaming service.

An American pickle is directed by well-known cinematographer David Trost, who has plied his craft on such films as The Disaster Artist, The End, and Can You Ever Forgive Me? Starring alongside Rogen are Sarah Snook, Sean Whalen, and Joanna Adler.

The film's plot revolves around Rogen's character Herschel Greenbaum, who has been preserved in a vat of pickles for 100 years and awakens to find himself in modern-day Brooklyn where he meets his only surviving relative, Ben Greenbaum, also played by Rogen. {googleads}

It sounds a bit ridiculous, but let's just see where this thing goes. After all, Rogen's brand of comedy has been known to carry a film to success in the past. Let's give it a chance.

The coming-of-age comedy also stars Maya Erskine, Jorma Taccone, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Geoffrey Cantor, David Mattey, Adam Ratcliffe and more.
