Alita: Battle Angel

The cyberpunk manga action film Alita: Battle Angel beat expectations to come out on top of the weekend box office with a three day haul of $27.8 million. While those numbers are certainly not something to write home about, when the total four day count is taken into consideration (the film opened on Wednesday), things are certainly a bit more respectable.

Alita's box office battle was enough to wrest the top position from last week's champ, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part took in $21.2 million to bring its total to a whopping $62.7 million in its first two weeks on release.

The Rebel Wilson romantic comedy Isn't it Romantic performed admirably, finishing in third place over the weekend with $14 million in receipts which was enough to beat out the Taraji P. Henson-led comedy fantasy What Men Want which finished its four day weekend run with $10.9 million.

The top five was rounded out by anther film making its debut this weekend, the comedy/horror sequel Happy Death Day 2U which finished just short of adding $10 million to its Wednesday opening total for a four-day run of $13.5 million.{googleads}

The holdover Liam Neeson action film Cold Pursuit came in sixth this week a $6 million take which was enough to beat out the Bryan Cranston/ Kevin Hart dramedy The Upside which added another $5.5 million to its $94 million six week total.

M. Night Shyamalan's Glass dropped three slots this week to finish in eight place with a $3.8 million haul which beats the horror film The Prodigy which also dropped three spots to finish in ninth place.

Rounding out the top ten is Green Book which added another $2.7 million to its 14-week total of $65 million.
