The House With the Clock in its Walls

As we approach Halloween, it should be no surprise that Eli Roth is making noise at the weekend box office. But what is surprising is that he's doing it with a conventional fantasy release. His The House With the Clock in its Walls beat expectations and ended up with a $26.8 million take, besting holdover A Simple Favor to take the top spot.

Paul Feig's mystery thriller that stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, A Simple Favor actually moved up one slot to finish second with a $10.4 million take besting Corin Hardy's The Nun which came in third with $10.2 million. {googleads}

The Predator fell 3 spots from last week's number one to finish in fourth with $8.7 million while Crazy Rich Asians continues its impressive run with $6.5 million to finish out the top five.

The next two spots were occupied by Matthew McConaughey's true story White Boy Rick in the sixth slot with Jennifer garner's revenge flick Peppermint following with $3.7 million.

Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 11/9 seriously underperformed with only $3.1 million on a wide opening in 1,00 theaters nationwide.

Rounding out the top ten were Jason Statham's shark thriller The Meg followed by Searching which fell from the seventh and eight spots respectively.
