Sincerely Saul (2025)

Sincerely Saul is a madhouse of modern day dilemmas as one 27-year-old virgin vows to end it all in this grotesque, but painfully bleak comedy, which tackles existential despair, offering sharp insights into modern masculinity and human connection.

"a madhouse of modern day dilemmas"

This is what happens when Lars von Trier–like social discomfort slams right into Ari Aster’s take on psychological claustrophobia while Todd Solondz’s deadpan cynicism witnesses it all.  While not for every single audience member out there, writer/director Jeremiah Kipp’s take on a reclusive young man who is left to care for his bedridden mother is a darkly comic expression of emotional paralysis which is all too identifiable in today’s disconnected world.

Sincerely Saul walks a fine line between comedy and tragedy as one parasitic relationship becomes a suicide plan worth remembering.  And so many of our current modern day habits get scorched along the way.  From awkward encounters with strangers to misguided online dating efforts, Sincerely Saul doesn’t bat an eye as it targets a whole lot of Saul’s efforts just to prove that he exists.

At its basic level, Sincerely Saul is about a lonely man stuck at home with his bedridden Grandma.  Already, a sense of isolation and guilt is being curated and Saul - who has yet to lose his virginity - forms a plan that is both darkly funny and richly pathetic, all held empathetic (at the beginning of the film) due to the absurdities of feeling trapped in their claustrophobic suburban home.Sincerely Saul (2025)

As his birthday approaches, Saul’s attempts at intimacy veer between pathetic, absurd, and deeply human, all while his grandmother’s presence looms — both physically and symbolically — over his every move.  He has nowhere but down to go . . .

. . . and Kipp isn’t afraid to go there either.

Starring Ryan Schafer as Saul and Mickey Faerch as Grandma Diana, the film is a comedy which will leave you wincing as much as it does laugh as Saul fumbles through this thing called life.  The film also stars Augie Duke as Becky Baby, Karl Backus, Brendan Cahalan, Amber Grayson, Paul Fisher III, and Randy Davison as Carry the Counsellor while offering a memorable character study which should frighten viewers with its honesty and its stark desperation as Saul attempts to take control of his life.

Sincerely Saul is available to stream on on Apple TV (available to rent/purchase) and on Google Play Movies.
