Well, here’s a fun little horror anthology fresh out of the summer season for you! Dr. Saville’s Horror Show, directed by Kevin Phipps, takes its victims on a ride through Hell and straight into the tipping point of insanity as ghastly horror stories merge with great practical and makeup effects and create an unseasonal horror release that is a blast from beginning to end.
Currently available on digital platforms including Amazon Prime and Vudu, Dr. Saville’s Horror Show opens with a frame story which invites us into the unplanned evening of Michael, who sits alone at a hotel bar. It isn’t too long before Michael’s thoughts are not on the winter storm stranding him in the hotel and on the hot blonde who invites him back to her room for the evening.
Except Michael wakes up strapped to a chair in the dark lair of the mysterious Dr. Saville!!!! So much for cold and lonely winter nights . . .
. . . and so begins this anthology of chilling stories. Featuring fun performances from Allen Valor, Michael Hanelin, and Honda King, this feisty film has a lot of fight in it thanks to some solid directing and acting. It is bloody, at times brilliant in its crushing brutality, and handles each narrative with a deft hand, building toward its epic finale.
From weight loss thanks to a bioengineered tapeworm to the black slime surrounding one man’s dream woman, Dr. Saville’s Horror Show is well-made, and knows its audience, filling their heads with tales from the torture chambers. It is manipulation at its finest as twisted stories with uncommon themes are ripped straight from Michael’s mind, distorting what he knows to be true.
These three stories - Consume, It’s Complicated, and Break - make for one helluva good and GROOVY time as Dr. Saville tortures and manipulates Michael to coerce a concession out from him about his unfaithful ways and means, but it doesn’t stop there.
