The crazy clown mayhem of All Hallows Eve continues!
Writer/Director Damien Leone knows how to commit to horror. I mean, without even batting an eye he serves up a whole platter of gore-iffic deserts, and sure, no one asked for them, but he definitely delivers on the special effects, turning his b-grade cast into mighty meals for Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton in yet another fantastic performance) to dine on again and again.
Welcome to Terrifier 2, the movie which you already know is the cause for some moviegoers to lose their lunch in the theater aisles. Well, truthfully, I’ve seen worse, but - hey!!! - mainstream audiences probably haven’t and, thanks to the maiming and munching here, they get to finally earn their horror wings as the absolute skuzziness of older slasher flicks gets brought onto center stage.
It all starts when Art the Clown - think a murderous Marcel Marceau and you get the point, complete with pom poms, a crooked nose, and a small top hat - takes up his garbage bag of antique (but razor sharp!!) tools and shuffles out of the morgue, after killing everybody in it, and enters the dreamscape of our own nightmares and sets up shop - to kill and kill again - in the hometown of teenager Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera) and her brother Johnathan (Elliott Fullam). It’s been a year since the Miles County Massacre and the town is still on edge, yet they continue to eat their Crispy Clown cereal.
While Art the Clown is seeing visions of one of his victims turned clown - complete with black teeth like his own - he welcomes the vision, embracing her presence and inviting her along for his killing spree and, just like that, the killing begins again. Yes, Terrifier 2 is essentially some over-the-top kill sequences stitched together with a looser-than-air script, BUT the level of commitment on display to develop back-in-the-day horror - complete with a top-notch synth score, a bizarre dream sequence, and a final girl in a revealing angel-winged costume - is to be applauded.
Sure, it is a long movie, but you won’t notice thanks to the gonzo appeal as this insane clown takes to the streets murdering everyone who utters one line of expository B-grade dialogue. It’s a fascinating watch, guaranteeing a good time for those committed to resurrecting the ghouls of the past for some splatterhouse fun.

Video
With a great scan - completely saturated in a throwback sense - Bloody Disgusting gives fans of the slasher genre something to celebrate. The images are crisp and detailed and retain their edges. Framed in a tight 1:85:1 aspect ratio, this 1080p transfer is good, good stuff. Colors are bold. Shadows run deep and the crisp textures in the walls and in the backgrounds of this slasher are focused.
Audio
The DTS-HD stereo soundtrack is perfectly suited for the film.
