Slaughter Day

Shot on Video, tape warts, print noise, and all, Slaughter Day is a most ambitious horror from the days of fuzzy definition and red bandanas. It is both fun and thrilling with some off-the-wall POV shots as Blake and Jonah, played by real life twins Blake (Rising Dead, Who Saw the Men in Black) and Brent Cousins (The UFO Report, Beyond Paradise), find themselves having to survive SLAUGHTER DAY.

"Wild as hell and full of some incredibly stupid stunts (read as RISKY)"

Directed by Brent Cousins and opening with a wild scene of gore as a hand is hacked right off, Slaughter Day turns Hawaii on its ear as trouble follows those who mess with H.R. Gieger’s Necronomicon. Wild as hell and full of some incredibly stupid stunts (read as RISKY), Slaughter Day is an absolute blast from beginning to end as a dust respirator is used to conjure all sorts of mischief.

The budget might be super small, but HOLY SHIT is the ambition through the rough as we get all sorts of practical gore, killer camera angles (I mean, it is constantly engaged!!), and a wild story where anything is possible - including people getting bent in half and sucked through floorboards. Call me crazy, but I dig this flick and, to be honest, I didn’t even know it existed until Visual Vengeance and Wild Eye Releasing announced the blu-ray release.Slaughter Day

And now I can’t quit the insanity of this dusty shot-on-video gem. Raw as Hell (you can hear the director telling the cast to GO! Several times) and unique in its vision, Slaughter Day is sure to captivate fellow Horror Hounds out there as it never lets up in its quick running time of 58-minutes.

Let the psychotronic plunging begin! Slaughter Day is now on blu-ray with lots of lo-fi horror and absurdities to gawk at! It is absolutely unforgettable as Blake and Jonah have the BEST worst day ever thanks to the multiple mutilations, the unstoppable slaughter, and the possessed psycho at the center of it all!

5/5 beers

A rarely seen, super obscurity of the shot on video era, and arguably the most insane and ambitious micro budget horror action movie ever made! In the rural recesses of Hawaii, a pair of friends must fight an ancient evil force brought to life by an occult book that possesses a group of construction workers. Packed from start to finish with kinetic lo fi action scenes, clever camera work and buckets of homemade gore.

Video:

The region free blu-ray includes a new SD master from the original tapes. It’s crusty, out of focus, and definitely full of print damage, but that’s what we expect from this line of releases. These are not great movies. They are only great fun to watch. And the hawaiian backdrop only adds to the insanity.

Audio:

Fans get Dolby Digital Audio from the DTS-HD Master Audio. Again, not great, but what does it matter as a possessed construction worker takes matters into his own hands in this hour-long romp
