Blood of the Chupacabras/Revenge of the Chupacabras

Shot on video and completely off its rocker as it relishes in its super low, low, low budget with early CGI effects thanks to Rob Neep, Blood of the Chupacabras begins with a disclaimer about the very existence of the creature at the center of this bloodbath and then, after a mother kicks some kids out of the house to go play outside until dinnertime, gives us a glimpse at one of those badass creature landing in a field of cattle.

"completely off its rocker as it relishes in its super low, low, low budget with early CGI effects"

Yum! Yum! That’s right, the beastie CGI overlays in these two films - as this release also contains Revenge of the Chupacabras from 2005 - actually swoop down from the sky and fly. And just wait until they get their hands on the family in this introduction. There will be no survivors!

Full of amateur acting, this fun-filled throwback to 1950s horror is B-grade matinee fun on a D-level budget. If only the pacing of each movie was the only setback! The character acting is some of the finest scenery chewing around.

Blood of the Chupacabras, directed for $3000 by Jonathan Mum, and its sequel, Revenge of the Chupacabras are now on blu-ray thanks to Wild Eye Releasing and Visual Vengeance. With Neep’s designs at the heart of both features, these SOV films are a twofer worth owning, especially if SD horror is what you are after.Blood of the Chupacabras/Revenge of the Chupacabras

In the first film, which stars Dan Leis, Rachel Sense, and Loren Taylor as Grandpa Charles, a group of local townsfolk are led by a treasure hunter into a nearby mine in search of gold but encounter a vampiric Chupacabras monster and the townsfolk that the beast has turned into murderous slaves. It’s goofball fun that is both charming and creative, bringing a sense of danger to the ZANY fun.

The second film, in which Jonathan Mum doubles-down on the crazed antics of the original, takes audiences back to the territory of the chupacabras. Nothing makes much sense. Plot points go whizzing by and somebody’s someone gets a GPS locator slapped on them, but there’s no real payoff to the insanity, unless of course you only wanted MORE chupacabras! We even have a mad scientist doing electroshock therapy! Revenge of the Chupacabras is for those out there who thought there was no bottom to Blood of the Chupacabras. It turns out, you can go further down!

Totally harmless in almost every single way, this Chupacabra twofer get a dirty job done when it comes to dumb-fueled creature feature flicks.

Video

The region free blu-ray includes a new SD master from the original tapes. It’s crusty, out of focus, and definitely full of print damage, but that’s what we expect from this line of releases. These are not great movies. They are only great fun to watch.

Audio

Fans get Dolby Digital Audio from the 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio. Again, not great, but what does it matter as a possessed construction worker takes matters into his own hands in this hour-long romp
