Possession Trailer

The demonic possession of a child gets yet another turn in Ole Bornedal's The Possession based on the 2004 LA Times article by Leslie Gornstein titled A Jinx in a Box. But what makes this one a bit different is the absence of Catholic priest brought in to exorcise the demon from a writhing, contorting youth and instead features an age-old Yiddish legend about the "Dybbuk," a wandering spirit believed to the the dislocated soul of an dead person. OK, only a slight twist on the formula, but a different take nonetheless.

The movie tells the tale of a young girl (Madison Davenport) who begins behaving unnaturally after opening a mysterious wooden box she bought at a yard sale. The girls parents (Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick) are then forced to extreme measures with hopes of exorcising the demons.

Aside from Sam Raimi's involvement - via his Ghost House Pictures - we're not really treated to anything promising in the trailer for The Possession. And the fact that the film's rating was changed from an R down to a PG-13 isn't very promising either. We'll reserve final judgment for August 31st when the film hits theaters, but it's not looking too good at this point.
