The Devil's Double premiered at Sundance earlier this year, was picked up by Lionsgate, and is now being prepped for wide release. And we must say, this looks pretty good.
Via Yahoo, the official trailer for the Lee Tamahori directed film was debuted giving us a stirring image of Uday Hussein and his body double, Latif Yahia. Uday Hussein, of course, was the eldest of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's sons and the heir apparent until his erratic behavior and troubled relationship with his father and brother knocked the hot-head down a few pegs. Of course, we know what happened to both Uday and Qussay after the U.S. led invasion of Iraq in 2003.
We still think the poster for the film is one of the best campaigns to come along since the DirecTV pocket-giraffe commercials, but the trailer is definitely well done and is sure to spark some interest. Rather than a broad focus biopic about just how bad this guy was, Tamahori and screenwriter Michael Thomas adapt Latif Yahia's novel to focus on a chilling version of the House of Hussein through the eyes of the man who was forced to become the double of Hussein's sadistic son.
Acclaimed action filmmaker Lee Tamahori (XXX, Mulholland Falls) directs with Dominic Cooper starring as both Uday Hussein and his body double. The Devil's Double also stars Ludivine Sagnier, Raad Rawi, Mem Ferda and Dar Salim.
The Devil's Double is scheduled to hit limited theaters this summer on July 29th.
