Murder on the Orient Express - First Trailer

This week brought us the first teaser trailer for the latest big-screen adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel, Murder on the Orient Express.

The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh and includes a star-studded cast of A and B-listers as well as a few up-and-comers, including Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Michelle Pfeiffer, Willem Dafoe, Manuel Garcia Rulfo, and Daisy Ridley. Director Kenneth Branagh also throws his hat into the Ring, er, train as detective Hercule Poirot who steps in to narrow the list of suspects one by one when one of the 13 train passengers turns up dead.

Even if you’ve not read Christie’s 1934 novel, nor seen any of the umpteen movie and TV adaptations, this one seems a no-brainer for fans of murder mysteries. The trailer doesn’t reveal any of the actual murder investigation, instead opting to give us a run-down of each of the train’s passengers.

The trailer ends with its title-card tagline over an auditory snippet from Imagine Dragons’ Believers that feels extremely out of place in the early-20th-century-set story and reeks of a desperate attempt at attracting younger film-goers. In fact, fan-made versions of the trailer have begun popping up around the web with hilariously out-of-place music cues running under the trailer credits. We expect 20th Century Fox will address that oversight in future trailers.

Murder on the Orient Express is not yet rated.

Murder on the Orient Express is slated to chug into theaters this winter on November 10, 2017.
