The Fall of the Queens

The hive is preparing for a new queen!

Make no mistake, writer/director Aleph Cine’s Spanish thriller, The Fall of the Queens, will definitely get your skin to crawling away from your bones with its haunting medley and it won’t be coming back anytime soon thanks to the eternally human scares sewn into the very fabric of this independent release.

"Atmospheric and full of wonderfully on-point performances"

Sharing the same savage atmosphere of genre favorites like The Wicker Man, The Fall of the Queens begins its brooding brutality with the killing of a rabid dog with a shovel as two teenage sisters, Juana, and Mara - currently living with their bee-keeping aunt - explore the country with an idyllic attitude about it.  It is a perfect situation for them to blossom in.

But things go astray all too soon.

When their cousin Lucio is brought to stay with them, their relationship begins to slowly fall apart.  Suddenly, their duty of harvesting and packaging honey becomes second to getting his attention and fulfilling their own sexual desires.  What follows in the wake of his arrival is a whole slew of emotions: jealousy, seduction, sibling rivalry, and the overwhelming desire to destroy each other . . . and it is all for the hive.

The building horror is very real and oh so very human as these two go at it in preparation for the hive.  Couple this with their aunt’s own disintegrating relationship with her boyfriend and you have a recipe for disaster as the women start clawing at each other’s throats, shredding all that stands in their way of this year’s harvest of sweet, sweet . . . honey. The Fall of the Queens

Wild fantasies run amuck on this country farm!  And it is all barreling toward a shocking conclusion that will leave your mouth hanging open, unless you are aware of just how far humans will go when pressed.

Atmospheric and full of wonderfully on-point performances from Malena Filmus, Lola Abraldes, Franco Rizzaro, Umbra Colombo, and Giovanni Ciccia, The Fall of the Queens is a haunting tale of jealousy that dares to go there with its very human horrors as teenagers come of age and explore sexuality on their own terms, even the consequences of it.

Uncork’d Entertainment will release The Fall of the Queens on June 7 to all streaming platforms.  Careful with these girls, though.  Play around with them and you are going to get stung!
