File this one under WHEN PEE-WEE’s PLAYHOUSE ATTACKS!
And, my God, does it ever work, too! Mr. Crocket is both brutal and full of charm as a mysterious children’s television show host starts kidnapping children, sucking them into a weird and wacky parallel dimension through their VCR, replacing their eyeballs with television static!
Directed by up-and-comer Brandon Espy and based on his short film, Mr. Crocket, which stars a very engaged Elvis Nolasco as the titular character, is the latest addition to Hulu’s Originals and the film, gutsy and full of great practical effects, is remarkably demented and a whole lot of fun as deadbeat Dads and Moms are taught lessons they won’t soon forget.
Oh, yes, there will be blood.
With carnival-like mascots designed by illustrator Alex Pardee, Mr. Crocket is highly original and twisted as hell as one man enters the homes of the kids who watch him and dishes out all sorts of twisted vengeance upon the parents. And he’s absolutely hard to resist, too. The kids love him!
Think of his show as an evil version of Barney And Friends and you get the idea.
Because when single mom Summer (Jerrika Hinton) loses it with her overactive son, Major (Ayden Gavin), and plops him in front of the television to watch a donated tape of a children’s television show, all Hell is about to break loose. She’ll soon regret ever introducing him to Mr. Crocket’s catchy tune-based show.
Kids go missing and the truth behind this mysterious kid’s show figure is revealed, leaving Mr. Crocket’s viewers gasping for air. But what happens when his kiddie audience grow to become adults?! Will he still treat them in the same manner? The answer may not shock you, but it’s very telling.
So much for all ages entertainment! Co-starring Kristolyn Lloyd and Alex Akpobome, Hulu is determined to find a suitable audience for this one. And, with its dark sense of humor, a cult classic is in the making as Mr. Crocket scares that pants off of some parents, produces laughs for the kids, and puts everyone in their places as only he can.
The demented fun is just beginning. Mr. Crocket says so!
