The red lights strung without care. The hushed voices coming from just around the corner. The decrepit elf under the bed. And the smile; THAT stretched out smile. It shouldn’t be on the face of a child so young, but it is in this horror movie. Christmas shouldn’t be this bizarre. But, wait, because in a movie that actually sees a man strung up and choked to death by Christmas lights, ANYTHING is possible.
If the first five minutes of Elves, in which one kid lures his little brother into an oven to get his “gift”, doesn’t unnerve you, then may Santa go on and fly the fuck past your chimney this Ho-Ho-Ho holiday season. Because you are one heartless SOB and this horror comedy is all sorts of messed up.
Elves, a sequel to last year’s The Elf, means that the naughty list is a-growing. Especially when the friends that are gathered here turn up to play the game. But will your name appear on that list? You better hope not. Because, if so, bulging eyes and a larger than life grin awaits you.
Directed by Jamaal Buden and featuring Lisa May, Deanna Grace Congo, Stephanie Marie Baggett and Amy Jo Guthrie, Elves is what happens when it is discovered that The Holiday Reaper, last seen in The Elf, is not yet done with a very cursed small town in Texas. Soon enough, a group of young adults find themselves under the influence of holiday cheers and jeers and, as wacky smiles stretch across their faces, they became possessed thanks to the curse of The Elf.
And all sorts of CGI gore is set to follow. Sure, the effects of the violent commands looks gamey as hell, but there is a certain cheesiness to it all that makes the follow-up an endeavor that is just a notch below what came out previously.
Because once this game begins, if you even THINK you see an elf in or around your workspace then its command will be EXACTLY what you do. And more names are being added to the list by the minute. {googleads}
This film is a Christmas paper wrapped tale of bug-eyed possession as some of our worst instincts are reimagined as holiday dolls. And their influence cause a whole bunch of young adults to stick forks in their own necks and bash in the heads of the people around them. With friends like these!
Elves might not be as “lit” as we want it to be, but it is a good natured yuletide flick that really packs on the spirited slayings because, thanks to the discovery of a demented elf in a charmed toy box, the seven deadly sins now have a pint-sized avatar through which all sorts of Hell is unleashed.
And no one is safe.
Okay, so maybe the acting in this latest release from Uncork'd Entertainment isn’t always top notch, but none of that matters once the party goes off with a REAL life and death game – because the elves are watching – at its center. And, again, that opening, featuring the two kids, is certainly a stunner with just how far it goes to show the influence that these elves have upon the innocent.
Once added to the naughty list, only death itself will take it off. Elves might be pint-sized in the budget department, but this film does offer a continuation that no one truly saw coming. It will be available on DVD and VOD streaming services on December 4.
