Jingle Bell heist (2025)

Jingle Bell Heist opens inside a London department store that looks like Christmas threw up on every surface: tinsel, fake snow, and a choir that sounds like they’re auditioning for a toothpaste commercial. Sophie (Olivia Holt) and Nick (Connor Swindells) eye each other across the chaos, both clearly plotting something more felonious than buying stocking stuffers. It’s a meet‑cute wrapped in a felony, and the absurdity sets the tone: this isn’t subtle, it’s a holiday rom‑com with a crowbar.

"isn’t high art. It’s not even mid-art. But it’s holiday comfort food"

Let’s be honest: the movie is drenched in clichés. There’s the reluctant partnership, the villainous store magnate, and the inevitable “oops, we’re falling in love while committing crimes” montage. But here’s the thing — the film knows it’s cheesy. It leans into the gooeyness like a pizza slice at 2 a.m. That self‑awareness saves it from being unbearable, turning the cornball moments into winks at the audience rather than eye‑rolls.

Olivia Holt brings plucky charm to Sophie, balancing desperation with sparkle. Connor Swindells plays Nick with brooding awkwardness that somehow works — he’s the guy you’d trust to steal your heart and maybe your wallet. Lucy Punch, as always, steals scenes with her razor‑sharp comedic timing, while Peter Serafinowicz lends gravitas with that baritone voice that could make reading a parking ticket sound profound. Together, they elevate the material beyond its predictable beats.Jingle Bell heist (2025)

Director Michael Fimognari, best known for To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, brings glossy energy and a knack for romantic pacing. Writers Abby McDonald and Amy Reed clearly raided the Black List 2022 for inspiration, crafting a script that feels like Ocean’s Eleven had a holiday fling with Love Actually. The result is slick, silly, and surprisingly watchable, especially when paired with Steve Hackman’s playful score.

Jingle Bell Heist isn’t high art. It’s not even mid-art. But it’s holiday comfort food — the cinematic equivalent of microwaving leftover pizza at 2 a.m. while The Cure plays in the background. It’s silly, it’s sparkly, and it knows exactly what it is.

And honestly? That’s enough.  It is now streaming on Netflix for all your holidaze needs.
