See werewolves, zombies, and unfortunate topless women suffer a thousand deaths! Conquest has arrived on HD with a brand-new 2019 scan!
Nothing screams “MUST SEE!” louder than a Lucio Fulci flick. Even when the auteur is doing a fantasy film which features a powerful, masked woman having sex with a snake after getting a narcotic shot straight into her nasal cavity (from a conquered tribe’s brain), the over-the-top craziness makes for tasty servings of matinee cheese and sleaze. If you are a cult cinema enthusiast, the release of Conquest on blu-ray from Code Red DVD should have you clicking on the add to cart button without hesitation.
I mean, if scenes of one man admiring another man’s “magical” bow doesn’t have you bent over with laughter, then few things in this crazy fantasy flick will. In all seriousness, the bow - which burns neon when used to kill evil - is pretty fantastic. Especially in the hands of ILias (Andrea Occhipinti), who is eager to prove his manliness to his family by embarking on a magical journey alongside Mace (Jorge Rivero), a nomadic outlaw. Together, these two warriors are out to rid the land of all evil, which means they must face the golden-masked female who sleeps with snakes. {googleads}
But, first, there are a lot of women to bed in dark caverns across the land. The temptations might be too great to keep them busy with the task at hand.
Ocron (Sabrina Siani) and her band of werewolves have dominated a fog-soaked territory of ancient lands. They show no signs of stopping anytime soon and, after receiving a deadly vision of IIias and his magical bow, Ocron is taking no chances. She wants everyone dead, including all the tribes who come in contact with the two men, hellbent on sucking evil right out of the land.
Armed with tons of gore, lots of female flesh, and an electronic Claudio Simonetti score that just won’t quit pumping out sonic terrors, Conquest is highly imaginative and ridiculously entertaining, making this release a sheer joy to revisit in HD. Made in the era of Conan, Quest for Fire, and Krull, it certainly is not original, but it does a lot in its 88-minutes of killing werewolves and zombie-like beings to make it a definite must-see when it comes to cult titles. 
From ripping women apart by spreading the legs too far to scenes of werewolf torture times three, Conquest swings for the fences when it comes to shock value and Fulci delivers on the madness with a doubling down of the bizarre in this realm of fantasy that could only spring forth from his sick and twisted imagination.
Visually strong - even if most of the shoot is surrounded in fog and stylistic haze - Conquest is now on blu-ray thanks to the efforts of Code Red. The title can only be ordered through Ronin Flix. Get your copy now!

Code Red DVD presents Conquest with solid results. With an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, this film’s 1080p transfer looks pretty solid with fine color corrections throughout and a brand-new HD transfer. Textures are fine and, so too, are the details in the movie. Details are high and skin tones are solid. Time has been good to this film and so, too, has Code Red DVD. The work here is stunning. Colors are strong and black levels are good, too. There are nice scenic details running throughout the film. With high contrasts through the dark scenes, this is a worthwhile release of a true cult classic.

The sonic sounds and the all the hissing arrives courtesy of a strong 2.0 DTS-HD sound mix.

- It seems that Scream Factory has licensed Code Red to distribute this title. That is my impression after listening to Scream’s go-to guys of Troy Howarth and Nathaniel Thompson on the interesting commentary that is included with the purchase.
