Call Girl of Cthulhu (2014) - Blu-ra

4 beersAaaaannnnnnd this is why boys should not fall in love with demon brides.

Human sacrifices.  Summoning ancient Gods.  And hookers giving birth to mutant monsters.  If demented killings with dildos and fan blades is your cup of homebrewed tea, then Call Girl of Cthulhu is EXACTLY what you need.  This is a movie for the gore-loving punk rocker in us all.  It is nasty, funny, full of throwback 1980s vibes, and somehow remains absolutely charming.  It is a film that shouldn’t work and yet it does exactly that.

The film operates as a wildly comic and bloody love letter to H.P. Lovecraft.  And, thanks to Camp Motion Pictures, the film gets the reissue it deserves.  The comedy is well-written, intelligent, and keeps delivering the demonic goods.  Seriously.  It consistently works on ALL LEVELS: production design, special effects, costumes, and beyond.

"The end of the world is usually not a laughing matter.  It is; however, exactly that in Call Girl of Cthulhu"

The first love of a virgin is always a messy affair.  We all know this.  Unfortunately, for a shy artist named Carter Wilcox (David Phillip Carollo), falling in love with an escort named Riley (Melissa O’Brien) creates a series of problems involving an ancient God named Cthulhu and the weirdos who wish to summon it.  Not to mention all the clients she has sex with and Carter’s irritable roommate, Erica Zann (Nicolette Le Faye).  But that’s just the tip of the iceberg in a film that features a vejayjay-dwelling monster orchestrating the end of mankind.{googleads}

This is sick and twisted ride through some ridiculously entertaining SINema, folks.  This film NEVER disappoints.

Co-written alongside Jimmy George and directed by Chris Lamartina (WNUF Halloween Special), this horror comedy is a gore-centered goof through all sorts of gonzo shenanigans as a demon hunter and his pacifier-sucking followers seek to bring about the end of the world. The Lovecraftian influence in this flick is more than a namedrop. This film is wicked fun for the author’s true fans as it features many references to the author’s written legacy.

Call Girl of Cthulhu (2014) - Blu-ra

The low budget movie is bloody and full of beer-soaked antics as worlds collide when a book prophesying the arrival of a girl with a birthmark on her ass becomes reality.  One group wants to invite the God into this world.  Another group wishes to keep the world safe from Gods who sell their flesh for fantasy.  And Carter is smack dab in the middle of the whole messy affair. We have ancient Gods on one side, a heinous group of birthmarked ass hunters on another, and, as they are all tangled within a brewing romance, the flick becomes a banana-peeling good time.

With beheadings galore, boobs that turn into hissing monsters, and all sorts of gooey practical effects, this do-it-yourself production is actually all sorts of fun.  The film never takes itself seriously and, with hilarious scenes where the hooker begs Carter to stop seeing her, the film is never not funny AND gnarly.

The end of the world is usually not a laughing matter.  It is; however, exactly that in Call Girl of Cthulhu, now back on blu-ray/DVD Combo thanks to Camp Motion Pictures.

This 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 Blu-Ray/DVD combo release from Camp Motion Pictures and Pop Cinema looks damn good.  The gore is grisly and the skin is supple.  The film is expertly shot and the color saturation provides minute detail puncturing, replicated here in great moments of detail, textures in the environment, and atmospheres on the surface. The mood is sharpened throughout the feature by the solid black levels. Fortunately, even costume threads are visible in this fine presentation. The transfer handles all the happenings expertly. Blacks are deep and colors, as mentioned early, are varied and supple.  The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 is dynamic.
