The Hunger Games - Firts posterWe got our first look at Jennifer Lawrence as the 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen in Lionsgate's adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games back at the end of May. Then came word a few days later that the trilogy of books would be stretched out into a series of four films and that Donald Sutherland had been tapped to portray President Cornelius Snow.

The cast has since swelled, filming has begun and now comes the release of the film's first teaser poster and it's one of those motion poster things. It is a moving image of Katniss's iconic golden mockingjay pin that burns its way into the frame and remains engulfed in flames. The film's tagline "may the odds be ever in your favor," hints at the plot which has Katniss joining a survival contest in order to save her community from a hopeless future. The Hunger Games is being directed by Gary Ross and also stars Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, and Stanley Tucci.

The film hopes to be the next big young-adult drama to fill the emptying shoes of the Twilight and Harry Potter franchises, but must somehow figure out how to bring in the money-filled pockets of the young male. The studio is certainly hoping a cool, burning motion poster will get things started.
