avengers endgame lg

It took a mere two weeks for Avengers: Endgame to make more money than every other movie in history... except for one. Still standing after 10 years as the top box office draw of all time is James Cameron's Avatar which has made $2.7 billion worldwide. By pulling in another $147 million over the weekend, Endgame was able to stave off any newcomers and remain on top in the number one slot.

It took Avatar 47 days to surpass the mark, yet Endgame did it in less than 14. Of course we're comparing apples to oranges though because ticket prices were half then what they are now. Regardless, it will be interesting to see if Marvel's juggernaut can sustain the staying power to eke out another $600 million.

The impressive showing was enough to stave off three new films which took the two through four spots this weekend. The Dennis Quaid home invasion thriller The Intruder pulled in $11 million to finish in the number two slot followed by the Seth Rogen Charlize Theron comedy Long Shot which brought in $10 million. in the four slot was STX Entertainement's animated family film Ugly Dolls which finished the weekend with an $8 million total.{googleads}

Rounding out the top five was Marvel's Captain Marvel which added another $4.2 million to bring its nine week total to over $420 million.

In the sixth slot was Fox's Christian film Breakthrough that tallied nearly $4 million followed by the horror film The Curse of La Llorona which added $3.5 million to its three week total.

WB's superhero entry Shazam! drops three slots to the eighth position with $2.4 million while the Regina Hall comedy Little made $1.4 million.

Rounding out the top ten was Disney's live-action remake Dumbo which added $1.4 million to bring its six week total to nearly $110 million.
