Imagine an hourglass. It’s running out of time. Quickly. The emptying of every grain of sand from one side to the other is the only amount of time in which you have to live. And the sand is quickening in its fall. Yet, this hourglass is different. You aren’t looking from the outside inward. It is life-size. It encases you. The sand falls upon you; burying you alive. Until…there is only darkness. Bleak and hopeless, with no time left. And it is within this prolonged darkness in which Buried, directed Rodrigo Cortés, comes alive in purpose.

Depending on which story you believe, Facebook was either founded outright by a socially inept idiot who, ironically, was looking for a way to improve his own social status. Or, it was stolen without giving recognition (and profits) to those who originated the idea. That’s the central conflict in David Fincher’s The Social Network, a film that looks at the moment at which Facebook, inarguably the most revolutionary social phenomenon of the century, was invented...

There ought to be a law against what Hollywood is doing to the foreign film market. Seriously. It certainly is an artistic travesty to think or assume that just because a film, such as Tomas Alfredson’s Let the Right One In, is presented in a foreign language...

Well, it isn’t a prequel, but if you seriously think that everything has been leading up to the wooden acting that plagues Saw 3D, then you are sadly mistaken. Sure, you’ll get answers. You’ll get gore. The 3D - while largely silly - isn’t a complete loss either. Hell, you even get Cary Elwes again…just don’t expect much in the way of Jigsaw. Too bad. He’s been part of the fun of the Saw franchise chronology because – for John Kramer – death was certainly not the end, but his lessoning appearance in the series is dully noted in this the supposed final installment. Yet, in spite of it all, Saw 3D does have its moments of cutting-edge fun, just not enough to keep the franchise propelling itself forward.
