Pinocchio: Unstrung (2027)

Get ready for another twisted trip into childhood terror.

The first trailer for Pinocchio: Unstrung has arrived, and it’s everything fans of Jagged Edge Productions’ growing horror universe could hope for—dark, disturbing, and completely unhinged. Written and directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the film stars Evan Lloyd, Richard Brake, Charlotte Jackson Coleman, Kelly Rian Sanson, and Karolina Knight, with horror legend Robert Englund lending his unmistakable voice to a sinister reimagining of the once-beloved cricket.

"A dark coming-of-age reimagining of Pinocchio, this unsettling tale follows the iconic puppet's disturbing journey toward becoming real."

This marks the latest entry in Jagged Edge Productions’ so-called “Poohniverse,” the indie horror franchise that began with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey in 2023. After its surprise box office success, the universe expanded with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, and Bambi: The Reckoning—each transforming nostalgic childhood tales into grisly, low-budget shockers. Now, the wooden boy gets his turn.

In this dark coming-of-age reimagining, Pinocchio: Unstrung strips away the whimsy and replaces it with psychological dread. The film follows the iconic puppet not on a magical adventure, but on a deeply unsettling journey toward becoming “real.” Here, the transformation is less about earning humanity through honesty and more about grappling with identity, manipulation, and the terrifying cost of autonomy. As Pinocchio struggles with the forces controlling him—both literal strings and emotional ones—the story leans into body horror and moral corruption, exploring what it truly means to be made, owned, and ultimately unleashed.

With Englund voicing a malevolent cricket who seems less interested in guiding conscience and more in fueling chaos, the film promises a warped inversion of the classic moral fable. Expect eerie workshop settings, grotesque transformations, and a tone that trades fairy-tale magic for grinding menace.

Jagged Edge Productions will release Pinocchio: Unstrung in theaters later this year. If you’ve been following the Poohniverse—or if you’re just curious how far down the rabbit hole these reimaginings can go—this is one trailer you won’t want to miss.

Watch the first trailer now and prepare to cut the strings.
