Premiering on Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms May 14 from Severin Films comes Saint Bernard, a hallucinogenic journey into the mind of an artist that is, at once, on equal footing with the visionary mind and wit of David Lynch.  Never in my entire life did I think I would see any film that was on the same visionary level as Eraserhead.  Thankfully, due to the incredibly inspired atmosphere of Saint Bernard, I stand corrected.

"Every twisted scene sparks with imagination and unforgettable characters.  Trust me, there is NO WAY you forget about this film".

I mean, this is a film that begins with a chicken, uncooked but prepared, looking out from the side of a plane ready to parachute down to the ground.  It is a movie where floors are made from wine bottles; where famous figures in history argue about a kite while standing in a piss-smelling alley.  Want to get completely weird tonight?  Then Saint Bernard is the pill for you.

This is an epic and TWISTED movie about one classical music composer’s wild journey into his unconscious mind as he faces the uncertainty of insanity and the repercussions of being lost among seas of unpronounced creativity.  It will melt your mind, trust me.  You won't fight it either. {googleads}

Starring Jason Dugre (Bosch) in the lead role as Bernard, this film breaks all sorts of rules and constructs in the mind as Bernard finds himself on stage, nervously ready to begin his performance, and then opens his arms to unleash a wild assortment of uppers and downers and all sorts of other drugs upon the stage.  Whoops!

He then turns into a knotted-up worm-like creature (with his head attached to it) that floats on out to his car to escape the scene.  Weird.  What follows, along with the discovery of a Saint Bernard’s head on a Los Angeles freeway, is a series of extraordinary scenes – all with practical and gnarly prosthetic effects – is a darkly-comic journey into the mind of an artist on the edge of success or bewilderment.

This horror film, full of some fantastic and haunting images, comes from the rich mind behind the special effects of Gremlins 2, Leprechaun, and Dolls.  It shows, too.  Every twisted scene sparks with imagination and unforgettable characters.  Trust me, there is NO WAY you forget about this film; the atmosphere is too striking as we see Bernard lurch into spiraling madness thanks to the film’s dark tone. saint bernard

Co-starring Katy Sullivan (Last Man Standing), Peter Iasillo Jr. (HellBilly 58), Bob Zmuda (Man on the Moon) and Warwick Davis (Leprechaun, Solo, Return of the Jedi), Saint Bernard is written and directed by legendary FX Master Gabe Bartalos (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Darkman).  The film was originally filmed in 2013 but found no distributor and so, sadly, it sat waiting for this moment.  With Severin Films handling its release, there is no better company to be behind this twisted flick.

This thought-provoking film features animation and a variety of film elements to create this surreal journey into insanity.  Some scenes are shot on 16mm, some are shot on 35mm; all are beyond description, though.  And, as exaggerated as they are, will certainly leave you questioning your own perception of reality as you study the images on the screen and their effects upon this composer who just happens to bring the head of a Saint Bernard into church one day.

Who let the dogs out indeed?!  This howling tale of madness begins on May 14 thanks to Severin Films.

Severin Films presents Saint Bernard on blu-ray with solid results. Details are fine and shockingly crisp. Colors pop and shadows are bold. Nicely saturated, there are no dents in its shiny armor. Overall this is a strong Hi-Def transfer that should look even better on Blu-ray. This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. The audio is also in great shape as dialog is always clear, everything sounds balanced and robust when it needs too. Also the more ambient aspects of the soundtrack are well represented.
