Battleship movieWhen we first heard last year that the classic Milton Bradley board game Battleship was being made into a movie (and that Liam Neeson was being cast) we couldn't help but think what a stupid idea it was. Just another money grab hoping to capitalize on the name recognition of an established brand, we figured. Then when we found out that Liam Neeson was willing to sully his name by signing on to the on to the project, we couldn't help but wonder if the actor had recently run into some money problems.

Now that we've had a chance to take a gander at the trailer, not only have our initial thoughts been reinforced and verified, but we've now begun to hope this project sinks so that any future twinklings of board game adaptations in the tiny brains of the Hollywood suits will be put to rest. This thing looks plain awful. Like some kind of horrible cross between Transformers and Pearl Harbor. Only, not as good as either.

But who are we to judge? You can take a look for yourself and decide on your own. Watch the trailer for Battleship below or head over to apple.com and check it out in high definition. Battleship is being directed by Peter Berg from a script by Erich and Jon Hoeber. it stars Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Taylor Kitsch, and Josh Pence. It is scheduled to sail into theaters on May 18th of next year.
