Joey Miller’s script for Your Host is brutal and bloodthirsty; loudly clanging the bells of the SAW franchise as gruesome horror gets the greenlight in director DW Medoff’s film.
Your Host is not for the faint of heart. Know that upfront as four friends find themselves at the mercy of a man in black, preferring to remain in the shadows while they wake in a game show by way of a torture room.
Some birthday party, huh? What they thought would be a fun weekend goes tits up rather quickly thanks to this mad man’s plan for revenge . . . and one of them is his target, but who is it? It’s anyone’s guess and, truly, that’s part of the charm as this horror flick gets aggressive rather quickly when the true victim doesn’t confess.
Nothing about Your Host is random, and - yes - this includes the victims, which ultimately elevates the horror involved as the host reveals his connection is to only one of them. Set three free, kill the one. It is an idea repeated throughout this production, but who is it?
Who indeed! While there are many surprises included, Your Host doesn’t exactly break new ground in torture porn horror. It does; however, deliver the goods as there are many bloodsoaked scenes full of body parts, limbs galore, and a healthy dose of practical effects.
A Horror Hound’s tasty bone, you know?
Starring Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Watchmen) as the sadistic serial killer at the center of this “party”, the audience is at once put off by his terrifying mask and yet there is something enthralling about it all. Perhaps it is the pain inflicted if they lose the psychotic games he’s invented. They are twisted and unique and winnable only by death.
Ironically enough, in order to survive they must play his games.
Benacus Entertainment in association with RNF Productions are delighted to announce that their dark and gruesome horror, Your Host, is set to have its World Premiere at this year's FrightFest on 22nd August. It will be streaming on digital platforms soon after that.
