“We had a legit possession in the blue room.”
You might not think that there’s a market for the horror documentary. But, honestly, think on it a bit. Done correctly, an extended paranormal investigation can be a completely fascinating thing to watch unfold and filmmaker Matt Benton knows exactly how to pull an audience in as the scope of his investigation widens and widens, revealing a fascinating glimpse into the paranormal as Hartford City, Indiana unveils what it is that hides in the shadows of the Monroe House with the release of Evil Unearthed.
Evil Unearthed, which is directed by Benton and edited by him LIVE for his YouTube members in order to achieve 100% transparency, is not for the faint of heart. This extended investigation by a veteran paranormal investigator works on multiple levels. It’s definitely made for fans of the paranormal but - and this is truly unexpected - offers a whole lot of interesting parts for those who are so-so on the idea of ghosts and EVPs. Like I said, it is a fascinating film which goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to putting together this investigation.
Edited together to create a definitely expressive mood where the paranormal hits hard, Evil Unearthed, with its masterfully mined evidence, provides a roadmap for other paranormal investigations to follow. It is done respectfully and manages to capture the allure of what makes these reality programs so endlessly captivating . . . and frightening.
The Monroe House claims to be the most haunted house in Indiana and Benton - along with the Paranormal Research Unit, DIG Paranormal and Interface Death - bring the long list of paranormal activity located within the house to light, revealing all sorts of unexplained paranormal activity. And some of it has been caught on camera, including the discovery of some spine-chilling ritualistic items in the crawl space.
From broken arms to demonic possessions, this multi-year investigation will leave you terrified thanks to its earnestness and its sound design, which for a paranormal investigation is legit. Lots of auditorial highs to be found here as reports of noises, weird things crawling, doors opening, and beyond are brought to light thanks to this investigation.
Matt Benton, who directed The Harrisville Haunting, has been investigating the paranormal for just over a decade. His interest, as explained in the beginning of the movie, began when he was 16 when a piece of brick was thrown during a paranormal investigation at The Old Washoe Club and, since then, has become an obsession of his, giving birth to countless paranormal investigations all across the country and presenting them on his YouTube Channel, Devil’s Hour Productions.
True accounts of horror rarely get this good. That’s the power of Benton’s 9-year investigation and, truly, this documentary is going to scare the shit right out of you, revealing more than expected as audio captures of mysterious human voices become intense warnings for anyone who dares enter and call up the paranormal spirits on this site.
Evil Unearthed will be released during the Fall of 2025 on multiple streaming services like Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Apple TV. It will be available for retail on Blu-ray/DVD.
