Iconic. This is the legacy Larry David has left in the world of situation comedy. From his work on Seinfeld to his own show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, there is little doubt on his influence and this blu-ray set - while it is far from perfect - celebrates a a comedy could run for decades without losing its tone or quality — spanning 12 seasons over nearly 25 years.
Premiering in 2000, Curb Your Enthusiasm helped define HBO’s brand of prestige comedy alongside The Sopranos and The Wire. It was edgy, adult-oriented, and unfiltered, paving the way for later HBO comedies like Veep and Eastbound & Down as Larry David’s loose scripts (with only scene outlines) allowed actors to ad-lib dialogue, giving the show an unscripted, natural feel that later influenced The Office, Arrested Development, and Modern Family, to name only a few.
And now, thanks to Warner Bros, the entire run of the show has been housed in one collection.
Nominated for 51 Primetime Emmys - and winning 2 - Curb Your Enthusiasm remains HBO’s longest-running comedy series and critics consistently cite it as one of the greatest TV comedies of all time, alongside Seinfeld, The Simpsons, and The Office, which makes owning this ridiculously funny comedy an absolute necessity to remain sane in this modern world.
Curb Your Enthusiasm stars Larry David as a fictionalized version of himself — a socially awkward, brutally honest comedy writer navigating everyday absurdities in Los Angeles. He’s joined by Cheryl Hines as his patient yet exasperated wife Cheryl, Jeff Garlin as his loyal but morally flexible manager and best friend Jeff Greene, and Susie Essman as Jeff’s foul-mouthed wife Susie, whose explosive temper and insults became legendary. J.B. Smoove later joined as Leon Black, Larry’s endlessly confident houseguest who became a fan favorite for his wild charisma and streetwise logic. Recurring appearances by Richard Lewis, Ted Danson, Mary Steenburgen, Bob Einstein (as Marty Funkhouser), and Wanda Sykes added layers of sharp wit and celebrity satire. Together, the ensemble brought Larry David’s improvised, cringe-inducing world to life, making Curb Your Enthusiasm one of television’s most distinctive and influential comedies.
Throughout Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry David finds himself in hilariously awkward and outrageous situations that spiral out of control because of his obsessive honesty and lack of social tact. He’s argued with a widow at a funeral over seat placement, accidentally tripped a blind man, and been banned from a country club for innocently whistling “Springtime for Hitler.” He’s mistaken a hand gesture for a Nazi salute, refused to give Halloween candy to teenage trick-or-treaters without costumes, and once wore a MAGA hat just to avoid small talk. Larry’s well-meaning attempts at fairness — like insisting on splitting a restaurant bill exactly or questioning social “rules” — usually backfire, turning mundane moments into full-blown social disasters. His relentless logic and total disregard for politeness make his misadventures painfully relatable and endlessly funny, capturing the comedy of human behavior pushed just a little too far.
Unfortunately, it's not all good news. This set is cheap and sleazy as the first six seasons, which were originally filmed in standard definition with a 4:3 aspect ratio - have been cropped to 16:9 widescreen. Because the early seasons were shot in SD, the image quality isn’t a true high-definition upgrade and then there is the flimsy packaging and delicate disc trays, which makes the box set feel less durable than expected. While the later seasons (7–12) look excellent in full HD and the convenience of having the entire run in one set is appreciated, the cropping and lack of restoration make this release a mixed experience rather than the definitive edition it could have been.
Still, it's pretty, pretty, pretty exciting to have the full series on Blu-ray.

The Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Complete Series Blu-ray set includes a modest selection of special features, most of which are carried over from previous DVD releases rather than newly produced material. Among the highlights are “A Seinfeld Moment on Curb,” an interview featurette with Larry David and the Seinfeld cast reflecting on the crossover between the two shows, and “Leon’s Guide to NYC,” a humorous segment featuring J.B. Smoove in character. There’s also “Larry’s Favorite Episodes,” where David discusses standout moments from the series, along with a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the final scene from the twelfth and final season. A gag reel of bloopers and outtakes adds to the collection’s entertainment value. While these extras are enjoyable, many fans note that they are largely recycled from earlier releases and that the Blu-ray set doesn’t include much in the way of new or in-depth retrospective content, making it more of a convenience collection than a comprehensive archival edition.
Video
With a nice 1080p transfer and presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio, the black and white photography of cinematographer Paul Guilhaume is kept pristine in this release.
Audio
Though there isn’t much to show off with a film like this, the DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio is clean, clear, and mixed well. All the sounds of the bust streets of Paris to the dialogue and music are heard with a crispness.
Supplements:
While short on extras, the commentary is just a plethora of film history talking about everything from Whale to the actors to Pre-Code history and much more. It more than compliments the film well.
