Among Them

It might be one of the seediest hotel rooms in recent thriller territory.  It also might just be the strangest, working some pretty shocking images that crawl out from under the bed as if a film auteur like David Lynch behind the camera.  Among Them, and the motel room at the center of its narrative, is the stuff of wild nightmares.

"a wonderfully acted and wickedly executed trip of a film that will have you second guessing every knock you hear in the house"

And that’s where Harry (Jonathan Thomson) and Mick (Dan Liebman) find themselves after their robbery goes awry, resulting in more than a couple of unplanned wounds.  They need time to regroup and plan the next stages of their botched robbery and this location, right next to the Atlantic Coast, seems like the perfect spot.

But nothing eases their worried minds.  Ripe with suspicion and a sharp eye for distorting even the reality of the viewer, Among Them is a jewel of a discovery for your quarantined life, especially if you love movies that don’t explain themselves fully, leaving much interpretation to come from the viewer’s own twisted imagination.

For these two criminals, their only source of comfort comes from their contact, a mysterious figure known only as Greyhurst (Bobby Kenney), so they hide out in an abandoned seaside motel room, complete with creepy clerk (Michael Reed), come up with false identities and make up a story about being on their way to see relatives in Boston. {googleads}

But, instead of safety, it is panic and paranoia that follows once they close the door to their motel room.  Someone or something is playing a HUGE mind trip on them and it starts with the discovery of an unknown woman (Evalena Marie, who also co-wrote the script) who is bound up and gagged in the trunk of their car.

Ready to doubt your own sanity?  Because that’s where writer/director Kevin James Barry’s Among Them is headed.  These three characters are unexpectedly headed for a couple of nights of sheer terror as it is more than the police that they wind up evading.  It’s their own minds.  Among Them

With items missing every time they leave the motel room, they find themselves working with the hostage that they didn’t plan for to try and figure out just what is happening to them.  Among Them is a wonderfully acted and wickedly executed trip of a film that will have you second guessing every knock you hear in the house.

Among Them is now available on Amazon Prime and Tubi TV from Cinema Epoch.
