The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection II Ultra 4K HD

Psychological.  Shocking.  Suspenseful.  And downright BEAUTIFUL to look at.  The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection II release in Ultra 4K is a DEFINITIVE release for some of the most thrilling classics from the master of the macabre.  Seriously, there is no flaw to be seen in both the movies and the images as classics like Saboteur, Shadow of a Doubt, The Trouble with Harry, Marnie, and Family Plot practically leap off the screen and land in your lap.

"The five brand-new 4K transfers of the original technicolor and black-and-white camera negatives for each of these films is monumentally beautiful"

Loaded with kidnappings, killings, bodies that won't stay buried, a whole lot of gaslighting, and huge fortunes, there’s a lot to appreciate with the second volume of Hitchcock’s Classics Collection!  And that’s just one movie!  Are they essential viewing?  Probably not, but that doesn't make them any less important.  Starring Hollywood favorites such as Tippi Hedren, Sean Connery, Shirley MacLaine, Joseph Cotton, Robert Cummings, Norman Lloyd, Jerry Mathers, Teresa Wright, Bruce Dern, and John Forsythe, this collection features hours of bonus features as well!

In Alfred Hitchcock's Saboteur, a riveting wartime thriller, an innocent man suddenly finds himself in a very deadly situation. After aircraft factory worker Barry Kane (Robert Cummings) witnesses his plant's firebombing by a Nazi agent, he finds himself falsely accused of sabotage and killing his best friend. To clear his name, Kane begins a relentless cross-country chase that takes him from Los Angeles to Boulder Dam and New York's Radio City Music Hall. The suspense builds to a climactic finale atop the Statue of Liberty that has become one of the most iconic scenes ever filmed by the Master of Suspense.

In Shadow of a Doubt, Uncle Charlie (Joseph Cotton) comes to visit in the sleepy town of Santa Rosa and his favorite niece and namesake, "Young Charlie" (Teresa Wright) begins to suspect him of being the infamous Merry Widow murderer. As she draws closer to the truth, a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse begins, leading to a shocking climax in this riveting psychological thriller from Hitchcock, which was a personal favorite of his. In the wickedly black comedy The Trouble with Harry, a picturesque New England gets upended thanks to Edmund Gwenn, John Forsythe, Shirley MacLaine and Jerry Mathers. You see, the trouble with Harry is that he is dead and, while no one really minds, everyone feels responsible. After Harry's body is discovered in the woods, several of the local residents must determine not only how and why he was killed but what to do with the body. Featuring romance, humor…and several unearthings of the corpse, this quirky romp showcases a decidedly different type of story from the Master of Suspense.

But there is more included!

In Marnie, we have Tippi Hedren playing a beautiful blonde who can’t stop stealing from her bosses.  But Sean Connery, a wealthy playboy, might have the cure to what ails her - even if she isn’t willing to be experimented on.  And in Family Plot, we have Hitchcock doing comedy as a phony psychic and her boyfriend find themselves caught up with a pair of kidnappers while tracking down a missing heir in California.  This would be Hitchcock’s final film.

The five brand-new 4K transfers of the original technicolor and black-and-white camera negatives for each of these films is monumentally beautiful.   Truly, the results are as incredible as you can expect.  Using state of the art technology, a new 8K 16bit scan of the original Technicolor camera negative became the basis for the 4K UHD scan. In a word: perfection. I cannot use enough adjectives to express how flawlessly beautiful these films look in their native 4K scan. This is not hyperbole.

The work of Alfred Hitchcock, a true cinematic class act delivering one masterpiece after another, RETURNS - this time in 4K - with the films included in this release!

The brand-new 4K transfer of the original camera negatives for each of these films is monumentally beautiful.   Universal has outdone themselves.  Truly, the results are as incredible as you can expect.  Using state of the art technology, a new 8K 16-bit scan of the original Technicolor camera negative became the basis for the 4K UHD scan. In a word: perfection. I cannot use enough adjectives to express how flawlessly beautiful these films look in their native 4K scan. This is not hyperbole. Film grain is fine and intact and adds detail to the picture - the likes you have never seen. Colors, especially with the HDR enhancements, are deeper and punchier than they ever were before in the land of all things HITCHCOCK, without sacrificing their intended looks and atmosphere. In fact, the overall detail and depth of these pictures cannot be overstated.  The 4K Blu-ray discs feature the DOLBY VISION HDR that dramatically expands the color palette and contrast range and uses dynamic metadata to automatically optimize the picture for every screen — frame by frame.
