Hard to believe it has been 25 years, but it’s true, Steven Spielberg’s seven-time Academy Award winning masterpiece Schindler’s List is turning 25 this year. And to celebrate the occasion, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing a 25th Anniversary 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray + Digital release of the film and will re-release the digitally remastered film to big screens in select theaters.
The film has not only been digitally remastered, but this handling by Universal Pictures will mark one of the few times that such a significant film has been remastered in 4K, Dolby Cinema, and Atmos. This promises to be such an absolutely stunning release that it will also be experienced on the big screen this December when several larger markets will host special one-night-only engagement screenings on December 7th. In addition, the remastered version of the film will be re-released in theaters internationally across select territories early next year. {googleads}
The film stars Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, and Ben Kingsley and takes place in German-occupied Poland during World War II where German industrialist and Nazi party member Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) grew concerned about the welfare of his Jewish workforce after witnessing their persecution by the Nazi Germans.
"We are proud to bring the remastered Schindler's List, one of the most important movies of the 20th century, to a new generation of filmgoers," said Ron Meyer, Vice Chairman of NBCUniversal. "The lesson that one person—during one of the darkest chapters in humankind's history—can make a difference is as relevant now as ever before."
In addition to the remaster and restoration, the release will contain several new bonus materials including featurettes (with Spielberg himself) and interviews.
