The Crimes of Grindelwald

Though the total didn't quite meet expectations, the wizarding world remains strong as Warner's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald took the top spot at this weekend's box office with a $62 million haul which puts it considerably behind the opening weekend total of of the first Fantastic Beasts film which brought in $74 million two years ago.

The total was also enough to fight off the surge of holdovers Dr. Suess' The Grinch which brought in over $38 million to bring its two week total to more than $125 million and Bohemian Rhapsody which did nearly $16 million which bumps its domestic total to more than $127 million.

Rounding out the top five were a couple of new films led by the Mark Wahlberg comedy Instant Family which brought in $14.7 million while the female empowerment crime thriller Widows did just over $12million.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms followed behind with $4.6 million to bring its total to nearly $50 million while A Star is Born stayed strong with more than $4 million brought in this weekend. That film's total now rests at more than $185 million. {googleads}

The J.J. Abrams-produced zombie/war crossover horror film Overlord brought in $3.8 million to bring its total to just shy of $18 million.
