Playhouse

Legends live again!

With a focus on unsettling locations and strong production values, Playhouse arrives to do all sorts of unspeakable horror upon its audience.  It is primarily concerned with an author who digs up the past for profit, but the spook-filled film never ceases in developing the terror, eventually revealing itself to be a slow burn of Hammer-like horror.

"Playhouse arrives to do all sorts of unspeakable horror upon its audience"

The ancient castle walls that surround a famous horror writer and his daughter will consume you, too.  The Evil is as thick as the atmosphere surrounding this godforsaken place as those who dare enter fall prey to all sorts of evil.

Produced and directed by Fionn and Toby Watts, this supernatural chiller both startles and frightens its audience with a tense situation as a remote Scottish castle becomes the home of a playwright who is struggling on his latest project: a living play.  That’s right, a play which comes to life right before its audience’s eyes who know not what to expect.  Little does he know that he's living inside one and it's a hell of a ghost story that is about to unfold.Playhouse

His daughter; however, thinks it is a waste of time.  She doesn’t want to be in any castle where the walls groan and moan and the shadows throw all sorts of shapes and figures against the walls. And, honestly, who can blame her?  There’s something seriously screwed up with the location and, as Jack Travis (William Holstead), with pencil in hand, is about to find out, that dark past is very much still alive within the walls.

Eerie and unsettling,  Playhouse tackles Poe-inspired situations and combines them with supernatural possession to create a horror film, while not all that unique, works in large part due to its earnest desire to rattle your bones with its unnerving atmosphere as Bee (Grace Courtney) finds herself at the very center of horror history that just won’t go quietly into that dark night.

Co-starring James Rottger (The Break) and Helen Mackay (The Miracle Maker), Playhouse might feel familiar to some Hounds of Horror, but its dedication to all the things that go bump in the night is to be commended.

Playhouse is now available on all streaming platforms from Devilworks.
