Crowdedfunded and with no studio involvement whatsoever, Mad Heidi, a wicked odyssey of blood and cheese, puts a new spin on the classic tale of “Heidi,” and it is much needed. This film is filled with great moments, awesome sets, funny dialogue, and a sense of wit that is not easily copied or phoned in. Opening with a massive and quite humorous protest concerning the state of cheese in the high alps, firearms are quickly brought out and the crowd silenced. There will be no complaining about the cheese in these streets!
Swissploitation Films knows exactly what type of film they are making and they kick up the blood and guts and absolute hilarity from the very beginning and never settle for less. The sets are elaborate and the practical effects are to be complimented as first time filmmakers Johannes Hartmann and Sandro Klopfstein bring out the nonstop fun that is MAD HEIDI!
And that’s just how Our Very Swiss Leader (Casper Van Dien) - a ruthless dictator bent on world domination through dairy - wants it to be. That is until our heroine, Mad Heidi (Alice Lucy) steps up and takes charge! Of course, that’s after she gets what she wants from Goat Peter (Kel Matsena) . . .

Hilariously played and smartly scripted, Mad Heidi is an over-the-top blast of sleaze and cheese and it never fails to entertain as Heidi’s idyllic life in the Swiss Alps with her beloved old school grandfather (David Schofield) far above an increasingly-dystopian landscape is finally smashed by the dictator of cheese, who doesn’t care for the lactose intolerant.
But when her goat-herding lover (Matsena) is brutally murdered by government thugs for distributing illegal cheese, Heidi embarks on a wild quest for vengeance that will bring her toe-to-toe against fierce female prison inmates, cheese-fueled Swiss super-soldiers, ninja nuns, and more, as she fights to take down the tyrannical regime and restore freedom to Switzerland.
The film is non-stop gonzo and it works to create a one hell of a good time as Heidi faces all sorts of obstacles on her path to revenge.
Mad Heidi initially made waves for its innovative crowdfunded approach, bypassing traditional financing tactics to ensure that the film’s original vision was preserved while placing profits back in the hands of the creators and backers. Mad Heidi is the ultimate tribute to grindhouse cinema and the latest fresh twist on a classic favorite to hit theaters through Fathom Events, following the distributor’s popular screenings of the indie horror hit Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood And Honey in February.
Mad Heidi will open on screens across the United States from Fathom Events. The film will also be available across Canada at select Cineplex locations on June 21st. Get ready to have a cheese-eating grin plastered on your face for about 90-minutes!
