Bad Girl Boogey

Ozploitation is alive and well!

If carving out a shrink’s brain with a super sharp piece of glass and then going for a brisk walk along the beach to drown out your demons is your cuppa tea, then Bad Girl Boogey, a trangender and queer film from Alice Maio Mackay (So Vam)  is what you need to be watching . . . like NOW!!!

Opening with a gag about confusing the star of David with a pentagram, Bad Girl Boogey rather delightfully gets its neon-lit horror strut on early when a woman is brutally murdered one Halloween night by a deranged killer in a cursed parasitic mask: an eye poked out and a throat slashed.  And it is all because of a mask!

Starring Lisa Fanto (Love, Guns & Level Ups), Iris Mcerlean, Chris Asimos, Toshiro Glenn, Lewi Dawson, Kate Bonney, Bad Girl Boogey also features a voiceover cameo from horror icon Bill Mosley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Devil’s Rejects).  This movie fires on all cylinders and carries a unique vision and voice which is sorely needed in the horror community of filmmaking.  It is sharply constructed with horror tropes which have been manipulated to carry this unique view of horror.

Dark Star Pictures will release teenage Writer/Director Alice Maio Mackay’s acclaimed slasher film Bad Girl Boogey this summer.  The film, which received a positive reception at its premiere at Popcorn Frights Film Festival followed by a healthy festival run including Monster Fest and Salem Horror Film Festival, will release on digital platforms July 4 and DVD release on July 11. Select theaters will also screen the film from July 7, so there will be plenty of opportunities to see this highly acclaimed horror gem.

Co-written by Ben Pahl Robinson, Bad Girl Boogey is the story of Angel (Lisa Fanto), whose mother was one of the victim’s of this satanic mask.  Well, when the mask reappears some sixteen years later, she finds herself dealing with her friend’s lifeless body: killed by the same mask!  Couple this with a whole new slew of homophobic and transphobic attacks and all roads point to a new deranged killer who is trampling all over Angel and her friends’ way of life. Bad Girl Boogey

With no one really to turn to, Angel finds herself faced with a masked killer on a Halloween night and she must summon the courage to face this evil once and for all . . . even if this killer is anonymous: the threat presented is real!

From high school bullying to the norms of the queer and transgender population, this movie is all about an alternative lifestyle which some tread and the threats faced on the daily by those who fear acceptance.  It is full of wild cinematography as club scenes give way to bouts of violence and moments of suicidal thoughts give way to clearer and focused ways to deal with a threat.

Directed, Produced, and Co-Written by Mackay, Bad Girl Boogey ushers in an inclusive slasher film proudly representing the queer community and loudly announcing an exciting new directorial voice. It will be available on digital platforms July 4, play select theaters July 7, and DVD July 11.
