Broad Green Pictures has just released a new red-band trailer for Bad Santa 2, the follow-up to Billy Bob Thornton's wildly popular comedy that's been some 13 years in the making. That's right, it was 2003 when we last saw Willie the alcoholic Santa Claus impersonator and his little helper Marcus robbing department stores.

Well, the con men are at it again, but this time they set their thieving sights on a Chicago charity.

Bad Santa 2 is directed by American filmmaker Mark Waters, he of Freaky Friday and Mean Girls fame, while Shauna Cross and Doug Ellin pen the script. Of course Billy Bob Thornton and Tony Cox return, but the additions of Kathy Bates and Christina Hendricks seem like great moves by the filmmakers with each getting significant roles.

While Bad Santa was undoubtedly polarizing when it first came out with its over-the-top language, unabashed sexuality, and outrageous violence, there's no denying the cult audience the film has picked up in the years since its release. Heck, many of the original's current fans were barely old enough to sit on Santa's lap when it came out back in 2003.

This sequel doesn't appear to hold back on any of the trademarked foul-mouthed ribaldry that endeared the original to so many, but word has it that the filmmakers have injected much more heart and human emotion into the new story. We know that outrageous, over-the-top comedies tend to work better if the tender moments ring true, so here's hoping they've done it right.

Bad Santa 2 hits theaters on November 23 of this year.
