UPDATE: First Look at Benjamin Walker as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire HunterFirst there was learning the truth about that whole Santa Claus sham. Then came the story of how the Tooth Fairy is really just an adult who rifles through our bedrooms to collect discarded molars. Or what about when our parents finally stopped trying to convince us that rabbits really do lay eggs... with candy in them. The horrors of discovering the truth can often be devastating.

I'll accept that the whole cherry tree thing involving our beloved 16th president was a farce, but will go to my grave firmly convinced that President Abraham Lincoln was actually a hunter of the undead bent on stopping attacks from bloodthirsty vampires who killed his mother? That's actually more believable than the great cherry tree thing.

That's the premise behind Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a new film from Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) described as a "very entertaining, epic history lesson." Bekmambetov goes on to characterize his vision of the book's adaptation as a cross between D.W. Griffith's Abraham Lincoln and F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu. While that seems a little "out there," it's interesting to point out that the Library of Congress is acting as an historical consultant on the film to ensure it sticks to history as closely as possible... but with vampires. See, we must be careful when exposing the truth.

Anyway, The New York Times was on the set recently and came away with the following snapshot (via the Playlist) that shows Benjamin Walker in full "Honest Abe" Regalia. The production is currently filming, and is slated for a June 22, 2012 release. Here's the working synopsis of the film: President Lincoln's mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers.

UPDATE: We just added the below photo which shows Bekmambetov giving direction to a clean-shaven Walker so the scene is likely from Lincoln's early years.
