Green Book - Movie Trailer

Peter Farrelly - he of the Farrelly Brothers comedy writing duo - ventures outside the nurturing biosphere of his co-writing brother and is ready to release his solo directing effort in the form of Green Book, a true story about an unrefined Italian-American body guard named Tony (Viggo Mortensen) who is hired as the driver for Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), a renowned classical pianist on tour in the '60s Deep South. {googleads}

The duo is forced to rely on the "Negro Motorist Green Book" (didn't even know such a thing existed) to direct them to establishments that were designated as safe for blacks during the days of segregation.

The trailer seems to hint at a very big change of pace for Farrelly who, as we know, has cemented himself in the world of comedy as one-half of the writer/director filmmaking team responsible for such, ahem, comedy classics as Shallow Hal, The Three Stooges and Dumb and Dumber To. Despite its rather serious subject matter, there seems to be a welcoming comedic tone to the proceedings as we see the archetypal flip of Ali and Mortensen's characters. The two also display a wonderfully charming chemistry together.

Looks like we'll have to throw aside our preconceived notions of anything Farrelly-related (we've been burned a few too many times) and give this one a chance as what we get from the trailer looks pretty darn good. Farrelly directs from a script he co-wrote with Nick Vallelonga, and Brian Hayes Currie.

Focus Features and Universal Studios are distributing the film and have just dropped the new trailer and released the film's poster, both of which you can see below.
