Synopsis: In this funny, uplifting tale based on an actual lie, Chinese-born, U.S.-raised Billi (Awkwafina) reluctantly returns to Changchun to find that, although the whole family knows their beloved matriarch, Nai-Nai, has been given mere weeks to live, everyone has decided not to tell Nai Nai herself. To assure her happiness, they gather under the joyful guise of an expedited wedding, uniting family members scattered among new homes abroad. As Billi navigates a minefield of family expectations and proprieties, she finds there’s a lot to celebrate: a chance to rediscover the country she left as a child, her grandmother’s wondrous spirit, and the ties that keep on binding even when so much goes unspoken.

A24 is preparing for the July release of its Sundance breakout hit The Farewell by putting out a trailer for the film that is directed by Lulu Wang and stars Awkwafina, Tzi Ma, Gil Perez-Abraham. You can check out the film's trailer below as well as its one-sheet movie poster.

From writer-director Lulu Wang and starring Awkwafina, The Farewell is a heartfelt celebration of familial love and its power to transcend the barriers of language, continents, and generations. It is about a young Chinese-American woman who discovers that her grandmother was diagnosed with cancer and the family concocts a wedding plan so they can travel to China to see her one last time.
