American Poltergeist: The Curse of Lilith Ratchet

Now, Gore-gore Hounds and Blistering Boils, I don’t know about you but when I take a bath – especially when my friend has been splattered on the ground and run over raw by a car – that last thing I want, naked and soaked in the bubbles of a warm bath, are long, thin, boney fingers grabbing me from behind.  No, thank you.

This is one of the best scenes in writer/director Eddie Lengyel’s terrifying continuation of the American Poltergeist series as Lauren (Brianna Burke, Fighting the Sky) decides to unwind and is suddenly attacked by the spirit of Lilith Ratchet (Crissy Kolarik).

And they claim the curse is lifted?  Fat chance, man.  Not after the bloodshed in this low-budget indie gem.

" is for low budget horror lovers, but it absolutely works in delivering a haunted tale of murder, madness, and morbidity"

American Poltergeist: The Curse of Lilith Ratchet concerns itself with the tale of two friends, Alice (KateLynn E. Newberry)  and Lauren (Burke), who find themselves with one hell of an unnatural find in their possession.  Curious about this shrunken head’s origins, they take it to a popular podcast host, Hunter Perry (Rob Jaeger), who knows exactly what to do with their discovery: throw a LIVE podcast party!

Woot!  Woot!  People are gonna die!  This film is where black humor and black death meet. Lilith is that frightening at times.

The film actually opens with a relatively brutal manner as two coeds are shown the filth and the fury of the pissed off Lilith.  She’s all sorts of creepy, too.  Barely able to ascertain a foot step from her, she slides across the floor and, with wide eyes, kills in the most unusual of manners.  For these two girls, it begins with stabbing clear through their eyes and then, when one hides in the shower, it is a takedown of epic proportions as Lilith throws herself through the glass.

But Perry thinks he can outsmart the age old curse.  He just needs a fun sorta listening party in order to do it.  Of course, his plan backfires and, as Lilith is rather cold with some of deliveries, we have to pay attention as the spirits of her former kills come calling, maybe offering a warning, minutes before she strikes.

Lengyel’s film is for low budget horror lovers, but it absolutely works in delivering a haunted tale of murder, madness, and morbidity.  Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of skin – just a lot of hot actresses – and one sick and demented ghost bitch.  But the film works in creating a new sort of slasher figure in the presence of Lilith Ratchet.  Hell, we even get a nursery rhyme and some haunting lullaby to go with her out-of-time appearance. American Poltergeist: The Curse of Lilith Ratchet

The film isn’t for everyone.  I can already see some of you dismissing it right out of the gates thanks to its low budget, but, in my opinion, the film achieves its look, its style, and its horror swagger thanks to its willingness to go dark and violent so soon.  It also helps that some black humor is never far from the dialogue.

Co-starring Roger Conners and Angela Cole, American Poltergeist : The Curse of Lilith Ratchet, is available now at Walmart and Amazon from ITN Distribution.  It also available on streaming platforms everywhere.

So . . . what’s in the box?  HER.  And, trust me, once released, Lilith Ratchet is definitely going to show you a good and gory good time.
