Widow's PointSometimes good ghost stories like the one trapped inside Widow's Point have to be heard by those who actually experienced them in order to be truly appreciated.  Thankfully, actor Craig Sheffer - in what amounts to a slow burn of a performance as madness descends - is up to the challenges this horror story provides.

"makes the most of its limited budget with an exciting location that is deeply disturbing as the stories and the objects found within the lighthouse grow more and more frightening"

And the results are deeply unsettling. Widow’s Point makes the most of its limited budget with an exciting location that is deeply disturbing as the stories and the objects found within the lighthouse grow more and more frightening.

Because there’s something thick and very much alive in the most haunted location in the United States and writer Thomas Livingston (Craig Sheffer, Nightbreed, A River Runs Through It, Fire in the Sky, One Tree Hill) is going to stay the weekend in hopes of documenting its presence and maybe - just maybe - it will give him an idea for his next novel.

At least that’s the plan behind his weekend stay at the spooky lighthouse at Widow’s Point.  He needs another bestseller under his belt in order to pay for his divorce and documenting the ghastly events of his overnight stay might be the publicity he needs to take him over the top when it comes to selling books.

His literary agent (Richard Satterwhite), sending Livingston his assistant Rosa (KateLynn E. Newberry) and tech guy Andre (Dominic Luongo) to help navigate the haunted terrain, believes the move is a solid one to reintroduce him to the genre that Livingston once shied away from. Turns out, Livingston is coming full circle - whether he knows it or not. Widow's Point

With a voice as enticing as his, Sheffer has a knack for telling stories, though, and - at first glimpse - Livingston (his character) welcomes viewers with tale after morbid tale of what happened within the walls of the lighthouse prior to his arrival.  We get sordid tales of murder, death, and Old Hollywood to tantalize us along the way to its endgame.  It’s a solid build up to the modern tale of horror that awaits us all and Sheffer’s narration delivers on the spooky.

But Livingston has no idea what awaits him once the doors close.  Unfortunately, by the time he figures it out, well, it is simply too late.  You know the drill when it comes to this shockers and that’s where this film loses some of its well-earned steam, but you can’t really fault a film that is full of some great moments of horror thanks to Sheffer’s gutteral narration and his on-screen insanity in this creepy yarn of old school terror.

Directed by Gregory Lamberson (of Slime City fame) and written by Richard and Billy Chizmar, who base their screenplay on their bestselling book, Widow’s Point premieres on DVD and Digital on September 1st thanks to 101 Films.

Check it out because things go more than BUMP in the night!
