Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour

5 stars

Are you ready for it?

Giant snakes.  Dazzling fireworks displays.  Confetti streamers.  Glitter everywhere.  Screaming fans who know every lyric.  And costume changes galore.  Heck, there are even choreographed dances that spin from dizzying heights in this barnburner of a stadium concert.  Leave it to the glowing BLONDE ambition of Taylor Swift to absolutely pull this extravaganza off, too.

Oh, yeah, and the music isn’t so bad either.

"There can be no denying Swift’s BADASS reputation as an ambitious powerhouse and a powerful pop singer once you add this film to your Netflix queue"

On December 31st, Netflix premiered what has to be one of the best moves of Taylor Swift’s career: her Reputation Stadium Tour movie.  It was filmed in Arlington, Texas (over two nights, I believe) and, trust me, if you were on the fence about Swift or her music or anything like that, you will walk away from this incredible show with a NEW appreciation for the pop singer.  This girl IS on fire.

Totally committed to her performance, her songs, and her fans, it is hard to have a negative thought left banging around inside your skull once you see what she pulls off here.  From beginning to end, her work here is both intimate AND grand, as she – along with a talented band, a big group of dancers, and a crew of hundreds – delivers what has to be one hell of a show for her fans.

The live performances throughout Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour are damn revelatory.  Beginning with Reputation’s "...Ready for It?" and concluding with that album’s “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”, the songs cover most of the tracks from that 2017 award-winning release, but – strapping on an acoustic guitar for a WONDERFULLY RICH time with her die-hard fans – she even breathes new life into some of her older songs . . . you know, when she was still kicking it (pop) country-like.

Obviously, songs from 1989 are also represented here – a standout being her singing in her sunny rainbow-fringed dress while openers Camila Cabello and Charli XCX are brought back on stage to sing (and dance) with her to “Shake It Off” – and the whole performance is a seamless two hours of stellar showmanship and some BIG, BIG reputations, too.  The set changes – featuring a towering snake and a comet lift that Swift “rides” out over the audience – are exquisite, fantastically detailed, and feature a tilted stage that Swift has fun on, dismissing one suitor after another.

Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour

Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour is directed by Paul Dugdale, who previously directed Rolling StonesOle, Ole, Ole concert film, and, once again, he does a great job keeping the energy LIT with moving cameras, great edits, and it is all thanks to a tireless performer who gives this grand show her ALL.

There can be no denying Swift’s BADASS reputation as an ambitious powerhouse and a powerful pop singer once you add this film to your Netflix queue and SWEAT through Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour

Baby, let the games begin.
