She's Allergic to Cats

It's time to get weird.

Menstruating demon cats.  That’s what this “sad and dirty man-baby” dreams of when he’s not being visited by rats in his shitty Hollywood bungalow.  Ironically, this is what happens when you sell out to “The Man” in pursuit of making a major motion picture in Hollywood. Trippy, hilarious, and bizarrely surreal, She’s Allergic to Cats is also one of the sweetest independent films I’ve been an audience to.

"surreal look at romance against a backdrop of punk rock ruin"

It might completely out of its gourd, but this regularly insane trip through Hollywood is also quite authentic as one poor soul sees his vision of cats starring in Carrie laughed at, his shitty van towed, and resorts to making his video designs a rather savage part of his life and his point of view, especially when the mutant rats start to take over.

Writer/director Michael Reich's semi-autobiographical experimental comedy She's Allergic to Cats tells the tale of one down-on-his-luck dog groomer, Mike Pinkney (played by Mike Pinkney) that dares to dream of remaking Carrie . . . except with cats.  Things get completely twisted when the girl of his dreams (Sonja Kinski) walks into the dog-grooming shop where he works at. Suddenly, he has a date and a chance to make his dream project, but his landlord STILL needs to fix his rat problem. {googleads}

Based in part on Reich’s life in Los Angeles as a music video director for My Chemical Romance, The Shins, Bad Religion and Ryan Adams, this surreal look at romance against a backdrop of punk rock ruin was produced by longtime collaborator turned lead actor Mike Pinkney and veteran genre producer Andrew van den Houten (The Ranger, Sadistic Intentions).  It co-stars Flula Borg (The Suicide Squad) and Honey Davis as his space cadet landlord who only helps to complicate this journey down the rabbit hole, supplying him with a kitten named Moe in order to “do something” about those rats.She's Allergic to Cats

As morbid as it is melancholy, this absurd coming of age narrative features the draining of a dog’s anal glands as all sorts of twisted events come spiraling out at us and it all stems from being an artist in love.  She’s Allergic to Cats is definitely unforgettable because this gross comedy has the tendency to go too far before switching the message (and taking risks with the medium) and pulling off a rather life-affirming and, dare I suggest, necessary independent voice in today’s DIY film landscape.

Giant Pictures has announced the long-awaited Digital HD launch of writer/director Michael Reich's semi-autobiographical experimental comedy She's Allergic to CatsShe's Allergic to Cats will be available to rent or own April 7th on Amazon Prime Video and iTunes.
