The reverb.  The chopped-up smooth jazz.  The POWER and the hypnosis of it all.  What I immediately LOVE about default.cfg’s i hope you get wet with the rain is the fact that what was once disposable background vibes and random cues from something equivalent to the weather channel or a free public access television station has now been repurposed as a soundscape that is more artistic than the majority of new releases currently at the top of the charts.

"An album that dares do some very BRAVE things with the moods and the might of the vaporwave aesthetic"

Containing beautiful, inspiring, and soul-stirring mellow music, i hope you get wet with the rain is a blissed-out sonic dessert from the manipulated techno-culture of hypnagogic pop.

To say that there is something inspirational about producer default.cfg’s i hope you get wet with the rain, currently being released by Bogus//Collective, is indeed an understatement.  This release – a whopping 23 tracks of chopped-up and recycled infomercial-like soundscapes – are shiny emblems of just what INSPIRED vaporwave offers its listeners as it takes them through “heavy rain in the northern region” and straight into “a night full of clouds” on one television station.

These songs are pitched-down and chilled to the point of serious personal introspection.  Once you strap on the headphones and press play, there can be no turning back.  The tones demand concentration and so, too, do the vocal effects.  Mesmerizing and haunting, be prepared for a timeless treat of broken transmissions.

With bits like “fog in the whole central region of the country” and “Atlanta, USA”, the music stretches past the point of its smoothness and its lounge-like tendencies and offers listeners a chance to reflect, think deeply about their own concerns, and, ultimately, develop an appreciation for the RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW aspect of the reorganization of its sounds. {googleads}

We even get future funk elements from songs like “interval” and “Washington, DC” as a flippant bassline knocks us forward while a strung-out saxophone holds us back.  The effect of all this chopped-up jazz and souled-out sonics, saving a surprise of slowed-down 80s vibes for its final treat, is an album that dares do some very BRAVE things with the moods and the might of the vaporwave aesthetic.  Your ears and your brains will be pleased by this release.
