The Grinch (2018) - Movie TrailerThe Grinch - New Movie Trailer

“Today we will do mean things, and we will do them in style."

Synopsis:Academy Award® nominee Benedict Cumberbatch lends his voice to the infamous Grinch, who lives a solitary life inside a cave on Mt. Crumpet with only his loyal dog, Max, for company. With a cave rigged with inventions and contraptions for his day-to-day needs, the Grinch only sees his neighbors in Who-ville when he runs out of food.

Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh.

Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who—a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer—plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch’s more nefarious one. Will Cindy-Lou achieve her goal of finally meeting Santa Claus? Will the Grinch succeed in silencing the Whos’ holiday cheer once and for all?

The Grinch (2018) - Movie Trailer

This holiday season we will all be visited again by that "bad banana with a greasy black peel" when Illumination and Universal Studios will bring us yet one more iteration of the beloved holiday classic, The Grinch.

The film will represent the eighth fully animated feature by the studios that have had a pretty good run with the Despicable Me/Minions franchise and some delightful one-offs like Sing and The Secret Life of Pets.

The Grinch will tell the story of the miserable old grump who sets out to steal Christmas along with his furry sidekick pup named Max, only to have his plans foiled by a young girl's sweet holiday spirit.

Though no other cast members on board the project have been announced, we know that Benedict Cumberbatch will voice the Grinch himself. The trailer features a lot of footage of the Grinch and Max including a trip into  town where the two do some pretty despicable things. But, of course, we all know how it ends and we expect the story by Michael Lesieur (based on the Dr. Suess books) to hold to the original's sweet-hearted message, after all, this is a holiday release.

With all due respect to Jim Carrey, we all know that there's only one version of the Grinch's story that holds any water, and that's the 1966 animated How the Grinch Stole Christmas in which the green one was voiced by the master of horror himself, Boris Karloff.

At its heart is a wonderful story that needs to be told over and over again at Christmas time so it's good to have a new version to add to the Grinch stable of holiday tales. It is also a whimsical story best told via animation so it looks like they are doing it right with the wonderfully-rendered we expect from Illumination.
