ShaftShaft - New Red Band Movie Trailer

“What kind of business could your Don Lemon ass have in my world."

Synopsis: “Shaft” is the next chapter in the film franchise featuring the coolest private eye on any New York City block. JJ, aka John Shaft Jr. (Usher), may be a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather coat, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal.

Shaft

A new trailer for the upcoming Shaft just came out. Oh, you didn't know a new Shaft movie was coming out? That's likely because New Line Cinema hasn't been heavily promoting the film. But with mere weeks until the film hits theaters, the studio just dropped a new red band trailer for it. And you can watch it below. But beware! It IS a red band trailer and it is definitely deserving of that classification.

Despite bearing the same name, the film is being marketed as a sequel rather than a remake of both the 2000 film as well as the popular 70's television series which starred Richard Roundtree as the titular badass. Not sure what the thought process is with that decision, but boy does it cause a lot of confusion when researching on Google or IMDB. {googleads}

As expected, the trailer is a lot of fun with a machine gun-like barrage of pop culture references, tongue-in-cheek self-awareness, and, of course, a lot of bad language throughout. Seems like it is going to be a lot of fun.

The film stars Samuel L. Jackson as the legendary cop John Shaft, Richard Roundtree as Shaft's father, and Jessie T. Usher as FBI agent John Shaft, Jr. Shaft is directed by Barbershop director Tim Story who works from a script by Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow.

The film, which also stars Alexandra Shipp, Regina Hall, and Method Man will open later this month on June 14, 2019.
