Papillon (2018) - Movie Trailer

Bleecker Street just released the first trailer and poster for its forthcoming remake of the classic 1973 film Papillon. And you can check it out below.

The film is based on the international best-selling autobiographic books Papillon and Banco that tell the story of Paris underworld criminal Henri "Papillon" Charrière who is sent to an infamous penal colony in French Guiana where he befriends Louis Dega who agrees to fund his escape.

Of course, the 1973 original starred Steve McQueen as Charrière and Dustin Hoffman as Dega and landed two Academy Award nods and a Golden Globe win for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for McQueen, so it's definitely a risky venture to take this one on, but after our first look at the trailer, it appears to be in good hands under the direction of Michael Noer (Northwest).

This time around Charrière will be played by King Arthur: Legend of the Sword's Charlie Hunnam while Rami Malek will don the knit-cap for imprisoned millionaire counterfeiter Degas. We got our first look and Malek as the legendary crooner Freddy Mercury last week in the first trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody which he absolutely nails, so we expect nothing short of brilliant performances for Papillon. The film will also star Tommy Flanagan, Eve Hewson, Michael Socha, and Christopher Fairbank.
