Lockdown

Ladies and Gentlemen of the cinema, it is time for WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash (John Wick, The Punisher) to step into the pandemic meets action thriller ring.  I don’t care if it isn’t yet a thing or not and neither does writer/director Micah Lyons (The Runners) as he takes both ideas and merges them into a tense thriller which sees Nash staring straight down the right side of a gun.

"if you like heavy hand-to-hand combat and lots of gnarly kills, then Lockdown is right up your alley"

Mob rules, right?  Well, certainly it will if Nash has anything to say about it thanks to the events in this movie.  His character wants to take down the homeless population as it is his belief that they are the ones responsible for the spread of a nasty virus which is making itself busy by killing all of humanity.

Opening with a quick chase sequence in which Nash as a gristle and wild-eyed man named Rex winds up gunning down an infected person, Lockdown makes its voice heard clearly as the shot echoes throughout the forest.  The world is a sick, sick place and it is only getting sicker.  With most of its population wiped out thanks to a mutated strain of COVID-19 (this film, by the way, was originally called COVID-19: Invasion), Rex and his band of brothers - which includes his son Justin (Swayde McCoy, The Great and Terrible Day of the Lord) -  are taking matters into their own hands.

And their target is an abandoned school which currently houses a lot of the homeless parties left on their own due to the virus.  That’s right, the way to purge and save the planet is to mow down these unfortunate squatters at a school.  Pretty ugly, right?Lockdown

Only Hap Rollins (David Ford, A Wish for Giants, Man vs Bigfoot) realizes that this plan is madness.  Maybe it is the fact that his estranged drug addicted sister Courtney (Stephanie Kae Smith) is living there among the ruins.  He can’t just leave her to her doom, can he?  Well, of course not!  And thus begins the battle of the century as Hap has to go face-to-face with this militia that would rather hang confederate flags on their trucks and shoot their guns into the air before listening to any shred of common sense.

Let’s get some things straight, though.  Nash is hardly in this flick, so you might sit back a little as Ford and McCoy are left to duke it out.  Yeah, there are plenty of gnarly takedowns especially when we are thrust into the school, but - if you are not a b-movie enthusiast - this gritty auctioneer is not made with you in mind.  But, if you like heavy hand-to-hand combat and lots of gnarly kills, then Lockdown is right up your alley.
