The League of Legend Keepers: Shadows

Christmas might be a great time to get together with the family around the fireplace and open presents, but it is also an IDEAL time to share some spooky, kid-appropriate stories.  The fireplace, the pajamas, the hot cocoa, and the chills just outside the window are all you need to set the mood for some pre-Christmas jeepers.

"doesn't insult its target audience of 12-year-olds hungry for a bit more Indiana Jones-like adventures"

Which is where a movie like The League of Legend Keepers : Shadows, an adventure-packed, fright-crammed horror treat, comes into play.

Beginning with an interesting legend about an evil being known as Ohanzee (played here by Marcelo Tubert) and its dark history, this map-centered quest for a missing pendant quickly gets us caught up with a family of archaeologists known as The Carsons and they definitely bring the zippy fun and energy required to bring a movie like this to life.

Lovable and highly intelligent, their quirks  - especially from the kids, Sophie (Isabella Blake-Thomas) and Einstein (Gabe Ebberling) - include blowing stuff up and sending assistants to look for the best coffee around.  These museum-minded individuals are all aware of this missing pendant and the stories surrounding it, but that doesn’t stop young Emma (Olivia Jellen) from playing with her shadow figures before bed. {googleads}

Unfortunately, the shadows (and Ohanzee) are real and, when all the pendants are brought together, some pretty dark times are ahead for the family, their new friends, and Hermosa, California.

The toilet might not work in their new house, but their minds constantly do.  They are always on point, in fact, and so is their collective knowledge about the pendant and the shadows that it scares up.  Even as they are bullied in their new school, these kids are unafraid to share their knowledge about India, evil medicine men, the blood moon, and one demon’s hunt for his missing love.

It turns out, once all the pendants are put together, The Carsons and their kids are the only ones who can save the town from the shadows of the past.  With solid scares and lighthearted zippiness toward some stereotypical characters, The League of Legend Keepers: Shadows entertains the youngsters enough while it mystifies with demonic possessions and some very broad strokes those older folks in the audience.The League of Legend Keepers: Shadows

Starring and co-written by award-winning young actress Isabella Blake-Thomas (Once Upon A Time), and directed by Elizabeth Blake-Thomas, The League of Legend Keepers : Shadows stars Richard Tyson (Kindergarten Cop), Jake Brennan (The Orville), Britt Flatmo (Super 8), Marcelo Tubert (G.I Joe : Retaliation), and Abigail Titmuss (Days of Our Lives).

While it might be barely dangling by its shoestring budget, the scares conjured up thanks to its CGI shadows are definitely legit.  So, too, are the dark themes that it rolls around in, never insulting its target audience of 12-year-olds hungry for a bit more Indiana Jones-like adventures.

Keep your eye on the sky!  The League of Legend Keepers : Shadows hits DVD and Digital December 10 from Uncork’d Entertainment.
