Army of One

Sometimes the holiday season needs to end up on Santa’s naughty list.  That’s one of the reasons Army of One, starring rising action star Ellen Hollman (The Matrix 4), as Brenner Baker works so well.  While audiences cozy up by the fireplace, she’s out in the wild kicking all sorts of ass.  Why?  Because one drug cartel messed with the wrong Special Forces agent.

"It checks all the boxes if you are serious about your revenge tales"

While we begin with an action scene, as Baker’s husband, Detective Dillon Baker (Matt Passmore, The Glades), gets stabbed by some mask-wearing psychopaths and rolls around on the floor with his partner during a drug raid, Army of One settles into a weekend camping trip in the great outdoors.  Everyone needs some rest and relaxation, you know.

But this Alabama country road isn’t exactly two lanes of blissful peace.  Rather quickly, they encounter Butch (Gary Kasper), who can’t keep his eyes off of Baker and his hands off of his dick.  Things escalate rather quickly at a diner, but thankfully the waitress, who everyone refers to as Mama (Geraldine Singer) defuses the situation.  Blood and hotcakes don’t mix too well.

But all this is a set-up for the violence yet to come because the locals here don’t take too kindly to strangers and the Bakers are rubbing them in all the wrong ways.  Full of intrigue and plenty of moments for Hollman to steal the show and win you over with her, Army of One is a satisfying and gritty tale of revenge . . .

. . . because Dillon and Brenner, taking shelter from an unexpected rain shower, stumble upon a shack in the woods that some backwoods drug dealers wish they hadn’t.  Shots are fired and Dillon is killed, but these cretins leave the wrong person for dead as they speed away in the night.  Army of One

And, once she frees herself, Brenner’s going to remind them of their mistake, time and time again in this blood-soaked story of revenge at any cost.  She’s a one-woman wrecking ball and, after crawling out of the pit they dug for her and her husband, embarks on a mission that will leave everyone responsible for this incident dead

Directed by Stephen Durham and co-written by Hollman, Army of One kicks all sorts of ass this Holiday season.  It checks all the boxes if you are serious about your revenge tales and manages to, believe it or not, satisfy the blood lust you may be feeling by all the good cheer being hung on the Christmas tree.
